"Cleanliness is a habit that keeps the body, mind, and environment neat, clean, and delightful and free from dirt and toxic things." These are the words of the famous writer Amit Ray.

Cleanliness is an absolute necessity in today's time. It is not only a word. It tells other's a lot about oneself and one's lifestyle. This word not only applies to one's personal belongings and property but also applies to the whole nation. Swachhta(Cleanliness) is one of the first impression's one gets when he/she visits a country.

India, is pretty guilty of this. We as a nation don't think much about cleanliness. Call it negligence or laziness but we keep disposing our garbage at the spot we're at. We don't consider throwing it in a dustbin.

This is one of many problems we are facing in today's time. The other one is Disposal of plastic. Plastic is poisonous for our environment. Being non-biodegradable, it doesn't break down in the soil and causes soil pollution. Hence either its usage has to be reduced or it should be disposed of properly.

But hold on, its not all bad. Recent years have witnessed a cleaner India. Various missions and campaigns like 'Swachh Bharat Mission', 'Namami Gange Programme', 'Toilets before temples' are some successful initiatives taken by our government to restore cleanliness in the country. We as a nation are slowly yet steadily moving towards a 'Gandagi mukt Bharat'. An India which would set a benchmark for others, where littered roads would be hard to find, where diseases caused by contamination would be rare. I yearn for an India like that.
