"Hey." River smiled as she approached the house to hug her back.
"What brings you here?" Emily asked.
"Just passing by. I was going to see Billy." River said.
"You mean Jacob?" Emily asked teasingly.
"No. Me and Jacob are not friends." River said her voice cold with a hint of sarcasm.
"Come inside." Emily invited.
River followed her inside,"wow!" She said seeing the food.
"I know. The pack is growing." Emily said,"help yourself."

Bella's truck, driven by Embry, pulled up to a tiny, weathered house with a window box full of marigolds. Jared in the back, jumped out, opened Bella's door. He and Embry head toward the house. She doesn't move.
"Pay up. She didn't puke." Embry said to Jared.
Jared annoyed, handed Embry five bucks.
"Told you she was tough. She does run with vampires." Embry said.
"Wait. We should go back, make sure Jacob's okay."
"I hope Paul gets some teeth in him. Serve him right." Jared said.
"No way. Jake's a natural. You see him phase on the fly? I got to fiver says Paul doesn't touch him." Embry
"Easy money. Paul's been at it longer." Jared said sure of himself.
Bella looked at them, appalled. They realised she's not following them.
"Come on in. We won't bite." Embry said said
"Speak for yourself." Jared said.
Bella warily climbed out of the car, joined them.
Embry pairs at the door,"oh, hey about Emily, Sam's fiance just try not to stare. It bugs Sam."
"Why would I stare?"
But the guys are already entered.
"Hello boys." River said with grin as the boys entered.
"You guys hungry?" Emily said,"Like I have to ask..."
"Hey, River." Jared said excitedly as he hugged her.
"It's been a while, baby girl. Where have you been?" Embry said wrapping his arms around her slender waist seductively.
River pulled away with a smirk,"boy, you can't handle this." She chuckled as she pushed him away.
"Who is this?" Emily asked when saw Bella enter behind them.
"Bella Swan. Who else?" Jared said as if the most obvious thing.
"So you're the vampire girl." Emily said.
"And you're... you're all..."
"Werewolves? I'm just engaged to one. But these animals..." Emily slapped Embry hand,"save some for your brothers and ladies first. Muffin?" She offered her a tray of blueberry muffins.

Bella cautiously approached the counter, keeping an eye on the door for Jacob.
"Leave it to Jacob to get around Sam's gag order." Emily said.
"He didn't say anything, or... couldn't." Bella said.
"That's a wolf thing. Alpha's orders get obeyed whether we want to or not..." Embry said.
"How about you shut up now, Embry?" Jared hushed him.
"I wouldn't worry about that. Jacob's gonna fill her in anyway." River said.
"River." Bella said surprised to find her there.
"Yeah, I know every stupid thought he has." Jared said to Bella,"wanna know what he thinks of you?"
"Like you need special powers to know that." Emily said.
"It's another wolf thing. We hear each others thoughts. Good for hunting. Embarrassing for everything else." Embry explained.
Jared leaned to Bella, challenging,"freaking out yet?"
Bella met his look,"you're not the first mind reader I've met."
Embry grinned,"Jakes right. You are good with weird." He said before looking at River who stuffing her mouth with cookies,"you better watch out River. I think I found my new favourite."
River looked at him as she swallowed,"that's cool with me, I know for a fact I'm still Seth's favourite." She grinned.
Embry sticked out his tongue and River did the same before they laughed.
"But I don't get...how? Why?"
"Because there are bad things here." Sam stood by the front door behind Bella,"and they're getting worse."
Bella is chilled. Sam moved past her to Emily, the sight of her instantly warmed his face.

"Hey, Em." He kissed Emily scared adoringly. Bella has to look away. Their utter devotion is a painful reminder of what she has lost. Fortunately, she's distracted by.
"You! You knew and you didn't tell me?" Bella asked,"And what are you doing here. I thought vampires weren't allowed on Quileute lands." Bella shouted in confusion.
"She's my girlfriend, so you know, we kinder had too." Embry said.
River glanced at him with a disapproval look,"in your widest dreams, Embry." River rolled her eyes,"I'm a Cullen of course I knew. You know I'm more than just a vampire. Those rules don't apply to me." River said," I can come here but I have to be under strict surveillance."
"Don't let her fool you. She's always here." Sam said as he pulled Emily closer to him.
The pack and River chuckled.
"My grandmother was a Quileute." River explained after she finished chuckling.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Bella asked.
"You never asked. Plus it's not my secret to share." River defended herself.
Jacob and Paul's arrival. They laughed and jabbed one another. Bella is relieved to find Jacob unscathed. Jared and Embry crowd them, finding a scar on Paul's arm.
"Ha! Pay up." Embry said.
As Jared reluctantly handed Embry five bucks, Jacob's eyes find Bella. He nodded solemnly to the door; we should talk. His eyes landed on River who was not looking at him as she chewed. He wore a painful expression before he left, Bella trailing behind him.
"Are you sure you're not here to see and talk to Jake?" Emily asked in a worried expression.
"No, I'm here for Billy."
"What for?" Sam asked in a sudden interest.
"They are few important things I need to run by him."
