Tw: Mentions of violence, mention of child neglect

Virgil did NOT want to go to school today. He'd rather skip. It was just all pointless going to school anyway. All it gave Virgil was unneeded anxiety and of course occasional panic, and anxiety attacks. Usually those happened when he was forced to present in front of everyone which caused his anxiety to spike up.

But Virgil also knew that it wasn't worth it with his parents yelling at him again. He forced himself out of bed that morning after a restless night of sleep. He also knew he'd make a worried Pat call him and ask if he was alright, and Virgil just didn't want to deal with that. Pat was indeed like a father to him, even if Patton was younger than Virgil. It was still nice to have some parental figure worry about you.

Slipping on ripped jeans, a band tee and an oversized hoodie that made him look even scrawnier than he was Virgil stared himself in the mirror. His tired eye bags, not perfectly clear skin and messy hair... Virgil said he doesn't bother caring what people thought of his appearance. But Virgil would be lying. Virgil wasn't really liked, a lot of the skull bullies tend to pick on him when he was alone. Even bi, Virgil's passed relationships never ended well. So Virgil sticked for being alone for a while... Who needs some sappy prince charming that came straight out of a disney movie anyway? Virgil didn't, not at all.

Virgil dodged his parents while walking out of his messy apartment. He let out a sigh and shoved his earbuds on as he walked toward his school. The walk to school wasn't that far, but it was tradition with him meeting Pat and walking to school together because... Well, there were some gang that liked to randomly jump random teens and force them to give them money or some things worse. Virgil ended up being grabbed at one point when Patton was sick, and Virgil didn't want to end up doing that again.

An arm was wrapped around his shoulder, and of course looking over it was the bright and bubbly Patton. "Good morning, Virgil-! How did you sleep?" He chirped.

Virgil rolled his eyes some as he ducked to get Patton's arm slip away off of him. "As per usual, sleeping well isn't the normal for me." He muttered in reply, taking an earbud out so he could hear Patton better.

Patton frowned at that. "Awwhh, Virgil! If you ever have trouble sleeping you could always come to my place and sleep over!" Patton offered. "I wouldn't want my dark strange son not to get enough sleep!" He cried out.

Virgil huffed a bit, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Thanks for the offer, Pat. But I can't." Virgil let out a sigh. Even if his parents didn't really give a shit about him. They seemed to only care Virgil was there to clean and do all the crap for them because they're lazy ass drunks who can't do it themselves. But Patton didn't need to know fully well of why he couldn't come. Virgil couldn't have Patton worrying about him for no reason.

"Why not? Couldn't you just hang out one time after school?" Patton asked, "I'm sure that Logan would come too if I offered enough crofters!" Patton giggled a bit.

"I'm busy." Virgil replied simply, staring ahead as they continued to walk.

"Busy? With what?" Patton pouted a bit, skipping over a couple of cracks in the sidewalk.

Virgil gave a shrug. "Things." And that was the only answer Patton knew he was going to get.

Patton let out a sad sigh, but smiled brightly afterwords. "Well that's okay! I understand, we're all busy sometimes! Just like how I..." Patton's talking started to drown out as Virgil felt knots tie up as they approached a curtain alley way.

The faces that the evilest gang gave Virgil when he walked by wanted to make him look away, yet he didn't. Yet the smallest gesture of slicing their own throat with their hand made him quickly move his head back toward Patton.

"... It was funny when Emile got all wet from that big Saint Bernard we tried giving a bath!" Patton giggled as he was explaining a short story Virgil would've guest came from volunteering at the animal shelter with his brother Emile. "wouldn't you think so?"

Virgil gave a small weak smile in return. "Yeah, Pat. That's pretty funny." He responded as they approached the high school.

~~ Little time skip because I can ~~

Virgil couldn't believe that prince idiot. Sure, at the end of the day Virgil would get over it and not care what the prince idiot thinks. But at the same time, Virgil forced himself to make sure the new rich kid wouldn't get beaten up at his first day of school. And all he got was, 'I basically saved you, you know," his ass. Of course, the spoiled rich kid wouldn't know how to thank someone for saving his ass.

But why would Virgil care anymore about him? Sure he was admittedly the hottest guy he's seen, but he was still a royal jerk. Who's last name is Valentine anyway? Sounds like someone made it up because they didn't want to do the iconic, "Prince." last name like everyone else does.

But Virgil didn't know how he could take it as he entered English and spotted Roman sitting in one of the seats with people already talking to him.

Roman looked up and gave a small wave, but Virgil just gave a low growl and sat at the back like he usually did, slumping in his seat and crossing his arms. Roman gave a small frown but huffed and looked away. Who cares what the emo kid's problem was now, Roman wasn't going to let it make his day even worse.

Virgil and Roman drowned the teacher out and didn't pay attention. Virgil was just too darn tired to pay attention to what was happening while his mind was running. And Roman? Honesty paying attention was only a fantasy for him.

But both Virgil and Roman perked up at the word of a group project that came from the teachers mouth. Virgil really hoped that he didn't end up together with Roman. It'll be the worst thing possible to do a project together with him. Roman could care less, but it would rather be difficult trying to work together with a mean emo.

"Cole and Valentine, you two will be paired together..." Earned a groan from Virgil as he slammed his head against the desk as he pulled his hood over his head.

Being told to sit with their partner and to figure some things out to do their project, Roman noted that Virgil was most likely not going to go over to him. Roman let out a sigh but put on a smile as he sat next to Virgil. "Greetings, once again. But it seems like we're going to be working together, partner."
Roman's voice faded away through Virgil's ears as he let out another annoyed groan. This was going to be fan-fucking-tastic.
