Lily's POV
We are back in California but things aren't going so well. Every day my mom comes home then she leaves again in silence. Instead of coming home and being with us on her lunch breaks, she just stays at work. We never see her any more and it is really bothering me. I don't know what's going on but I hope there is nothing wrong.
Life is good here. We found out that the Pilkins family lives only twenty minutes away from us so Vanessa and Jacob are always visiting. School is starting tomorrow which I'm pretty excited for but frightened at the same time. I am really sad that Vanessa is going to a different school but we can still hang out on weekends. My new school is called Westity High. It's supposed be a great school so I can't wait to see what they have in store for us.
Right now I am sitting in the family room watching YouTube. Selena walked in.
"Did mom come home."
"What do you think?" I asked sarcastically
"Sorry, I still have a little hope in me that she might come and stay for at least ten minutes and actually talk to us." Selena said sadly
"Well maybe to pass the time of her never coming home, we can go to the mall." I said
"Sure, I guess."
"Let's get going."
We started heading for the door and right when Selena opened it, there was a police man standing on our porch.
"Um hello officer, is there uh something I-I-I can help you with?" Selena said hesitantly.
"Yes actually do you know someone named Braden Malping?"
"I've never heard of that name before." Selena told the police officer.
"Okay, have you miss?" He asked me.
"Um I don't think so."
"Ok, thanks for your help ladies but if you hear anything, contact me."
He walked away while writing something down on his clipboard.
Selena's POV
"Come on Lily lets go."
I opened the door and walked towards my car with Lily following me. We both got in and drove away.
We pulled up at Starbucks and walked in side and ordered. I ordered a passion fruit tango tea and Lily ordered an iced vanilla latte. We picked a table near a window and sat down. We sat there for an awkward few minutes not talking at all. Until.........
"Selena?"
"Yeah?"
"There's something I have to tell you."
