Beneath part five

Chapter two: The Descent

Weirdly enough, there was a narrow path which made the mouth of the cave easy to find. We were all sort of tired and decided that we should make camp outside the cave mouth. The mouth of the cave was wide almost like a crevice of rock into the side of a mountain it didn't loom and definitely didn't seem all that impressive. it was dark though by the time we got there so the mouth was kind of spooky. We set up camp, Josh collecting firewood and me and Trace setting up a tent and a tarp where we could begin our work. Id brought all of my journals and writing stuff. Josh all of his camping gear along with his spelunker shit,

and tracy had packed multiple bags with clothes -all water resistant except for a few-And a bunch of technology that were all able to be charged wirelessly. i sat down away from my two friends on a stump and wondered. Wondered about why we were REALLY here. Why he chose us.........help me change the world.........no choice..........Josh snapped me from my thoughts abruptly, kneeling down in front of me with a hand on my knee. You okay Jamie? he asked clearly concerned. That concern in his eyes made ME want to comfort HIM. Why was that....?

I smiled weakly. I'm okay. I replied giving his hand a squeeze. Were we always like this....? Just tired Josh. I say. REALLY i'm fine. Okay hon. He replies giving my knee a squeeze, and getting up to go to his hammock-one of the other things we set up-He is a tall and, I never really thought of him as handsome but,...handsome man with sharp features and a lean but muscular build with dark hair and green eyes. I'm not his type, I think as I get up to go to my hammock as well. I reach over to turn off the lantern and drift into sleep, dreaming about lights leading me into the cave...

I woke up with a hand on my shoulder and a face staring down at me. Jamie it's time to make the descent, Lesters crew is here they've set up a ways down telling me to wake you and get a move on. Josh says to me as I get up swinging my legs over the side of the hammock to the ground. Let's do this then. Wheres Trace? I ask him as we walk to the edge of the mouth of the cave. She's not coming. She's staying at camp with the crew. Tech support remember? He says. She'll be alright Jamie. I hope so. I say as we enter the dark cave switching on our headlamps.

Drip....drip.....drip.. The sound of water dripping is giving me a damn headache Josh. How could you possibly do this for sheer fun? I ask. he looks over at me smiling as we make a right turn around the rocky bend. What can I say? I'm a freak.just then i hear tracy's voice on our walkies you guys alright? Over. Josh picks up his saying we're good and we continue through a very enclosed part of the cave. Josh looks at me smiling humorously. you good with crawling?

Yeah sure about as much as i'm good with an avalanche of rock sending me to my grave. i say and roll my eyes. Great! he said clapping his hands and gesturing toward a small crevice. You can go first. he laughs as i work my way in hoping that i don't see the lights from my dream.....
