He was once hopeless in the dark.
It was a dark summer night. The rain was pouring hard, with little to no light around. The weather had been this way for two weeks already. But also since there didn't seem to be any happiness in his life anymore.
The night sky was covered by clouds, not a single star to be seen. He was sitting on a lonely bench in the forest, as the water cascaded down on him. A thunderbolt struck a tree near him, immediately setting it on fire.
He didn't seem to pay attention. Laying on the bench, all he cared about were the thoughts racing through his mind at the time.
"Is this my end? All the years living and suffering, finally ending here?" The boy muttered to himself. "Is this where you want this to all end?"
He was confused. He never thought that life would be easy, but everything pressed so hard on him. 'Why do I get all the problems? Does everyone else have these troubles too?'
Another bolt of lightning struck across the sky, as the thunder boomed. Even if he didn't die by his own will, it was quite possible for him to die at the hands of nature- Hypothermia or something else.
The boy shivered as the growling wind blew the rain harder and harder into his face. Maybe this was indeed the finale of his life.
'Dying in a perfect scene... The storm, wind, and rain. Perhaps it is a reflection of my own heart and soul- The heart and soul that people never notice, and no one ever realized besides a few friends.' The boy thought, his lips curving up into a small smile.
His gaze was set afar, and his eyes were about to close.
Then he saw a figure shining in silver in the distance. 'Where does this light come from?' He thought, suddenly feeling curious. 'Isn't the sky completely dark?'
He turned his head towards the night sky. He didn't expect to see anything besides clouds, but he saw a shining star directly above his head. Even through all the clouds, there was a shimmer of hope dawning upon him.
Maybe it contrasted with the otherwise dark sky, but the star looked brighter than any he'd seen before. 'I don't think I've ever seen a star so bright... This one seems to be out of nowhere, especially between all the clouds.' His mind raced. 'Is this a sign of something?'
He turned his head back, staring at the silhouette of the figure that was fading out of sight. "Hello?" He cried out with a hoarse voice, hoping to get some sort of response.
The figure turned to look at him but did not bother to come check on him. "I should've expected that," He sighed. "People never bother to check anyways."
Though, he realized now he had no intention of giving up. Something sparked inside of him, and it felt like hope.
"Maybe I should continue my journey instead of staying in one place and hoping for the best." He said to the empty dark. "As much as I've been through, there's a lot more I can discover. For all one knows, this one may present me with what I've been searching for all along."
What was he searching for now? Was it love? More friends? Companions? He always thought it was love, but now he wasn't fully sure himself either.
But he was out for that thing, and he certainly was not going to stop until he obtained it.
