01| The Beginning.
14 Century, 1346.
The Ocean.
Darkness. That was all I remembered.
It was dark, it was cold and... I was scared.
Sky blue coloured eyes fluttered open as a girl woke up. She was floating, her eyes blinking as her chest rose up and down rapidly, fear spreading through her body. But all that washed away the second she set her gaze on the Moon, that was shining brightly in the sky.
But then, then I saw the Moon. It was so big and so bright that it.... Seemed to chase the darkness away.
Her breathing slowed down to calm breath, her lips slowly forming a calming smile on her face. She was smiling at the Moon but the thing that she didn't know was, the Moon was smiling back.
And when it did, I wasn't scared anymore.
As she felt herself lowering and placed on she thought was the ground. Her eyebrows furrowed when the felt the ground sort of moving, slippery and almost wet? Looking down, she gasped when she realised that she was indeed not standing on the ground but on water instead.
She tilted her head to side, looking down at the water in question. There she could see her reflection and how she looked like. She had long pale blue hair that flowed to her waist that was tied in a high ponytail and sky blue eyes. She wore what used to be a floor length white dress, not torn that it reached her slightly above her knees and she was also barefoot.
Taking inner surroundings for the first time, she realised that she was in the middle of the ocean. She darted her eyes around but saw no land in sight, slapping herself on the forehead as she stupidly forgot that she was in the middle of the ocean.
Taking a deep breathe in, she started walking, surprised that she was indeed walking on water. Her confused frown turned into a huge grin as she picked up her pace and her walking turned into running. Giggling, she spread her arms out, like trying to imitate a bird having wings as she whooped joyously.
Oblivious to her, the clouds in the sky cleared, allowing the Moon's light to fully shine down on the Earth, giving the ocean a beautiful soft glow. Her fun was cut short when she saw a glimpse of something that appeared to be land. Getting a closer look, it was indeed an island and looking at it, lit a kindle of hope inside the girl.
She sprinted to the island, jumping onto the soft sand. The walked closer to the village that was there, the place lit with the torches outside each house.
She saw a man walk towards her. "Oh, hello!" She waved at him. But to her confusion, she walked right past her as if he didn't hear her.
"Excuse me? Could you be so kind and tell me-" She tried to talk to woman that was nearby but yet again, she was ignored. She huffed and crossed her arms. "Rude."
Turning around her face softened at the sight of two children laughing and running with each other. She kneeled down to their level. "Hey there, could you two please tell me where I am?"
But her smile faded the moment the two children ran straight through her. Her eyes were wide as she brought her hand to her stomach, the place where the children ran past.
Fear started to rise inside her once more. Her eyes started to pool with tears as her breathing became uneven. The wind started to pick up it's pace, the fire in the torches went out, creating darkness. The clouds returned and thunder roared through the sky, being accompanied by bright flashes of lightning. A thunder storm.
Screams started to erupt from the villagers as the storm only seemed to worsen. The girl's breathing didn't stop, it was only when she heard the calm soothing voice of the Moon, telling her to calm down.
"Calm down. Your emotions are disrupting your powers."
The storm reduce to light rain as the girl calmed down. The wind speed reduced and thunder and lightning ceased.
But why I was there and what I was meant to do, that I'd never know.
And a part of me wonders if I ever will.
The girl smiled sadly at the Moon. She without so much of a thought, she was picked up by the wind. She squeaked in surprise as she tried to balance herself in the air, sighing in relief as she did.
Chuckling, she flew higher and higher, know floating amongst the clouds. She found peace with them, as if they were welcoming her, telling her that it was where she belonged. In the sky.
My name is Skylar Storm. How do I know this? The Moon told so.
And that was what he ever told me. Well that and about my emotions.
With one last glance towards the ground, she flew away. Her whooping started once again, the clouds around her bringing her happiness and the air giving her comfort.
If the people on land didn't want her, then she'd take refuge in the sky.
And that was a very, very long time ago.
