05| 21 Questions.
Burgess, Pennsylvania.
"What?" Skylar questioned confused. "What's 21 questions?"
"It's a game." Jack answered. He really didn't know where and why he came up with that. He guessed it was the fact he didn't want Skylar leaving so he had to keep her entertained and also that he wanted to know more about her. Skylar really seemed like an interesting girl.
"Okay. So how do you play it?" Skylar was intrigued by Jack's 'new game'. She assumed she got the ideas from the mortals of now-a-days as they always seem to be coming up with new ideas each day.
Jack grinned, overjoyed. He sat crossed legged in the air, the wind holding up. He gestured her to do the same, which she did with ease. "Well it's basically where we ask each other questions about ourselves until they reach 21? That's how kids these days play at least."
'Called it.' Skylar thought, biting down the smug smirk that was threatening to appear. She cleared her throat before smiling at him. "Okay, you start. What do you want to know?"
Jack placed a finger to his chin, humming in thought. What should he ask? There were so many questions that were running through his mind, until he settled on one. "How old are you?"
"Seriously? You're gonna ask that of all questions." Skylar raised an amused brow but she answered anyways. "666 years old."
Jack's eyes widened. "What?! You're older than me?! And by two centuries?!" He whined. He wasn't expecting that at all, in fact, thanks to their height differences it appeared as if, Jack was the older one and not Skylar. He was two inches taller than her.
Skylar shrugged again, smirking at the pout Jack had on his face. He leaned forward and patted his shoulder, "Sorry Jack." She choked back a laugh before continuing, "Anyways it's my turn." It took her a few seconds before she came across a question. "What's your favourite thing to do?"
"I guess that would be to annoy the Easter Kangaroo. Although, I'd consider that as a pass time thing." Jack smirked. He really did enjoy pushing Bunny's buttons, as it was quite a show.
"The Easter Kangaroo?" Skylar muttered before realisation struck her. This time she didn't bother holding in her laugh. She brought a her hands to her mouth to atleast muffle it but it didn't help at all, Jack could still her loud and clear and he liked it. Her legs no longer crossed and her knees were brought up to her chest, trying to ease the pain of the now aching stomach.
Once she finally calmed down, she wiped the tears that were stings her eyes, a sign that she was laughing so hard. Skylar cleared her throat, her cheeks flushing red once she noticed the rather fond smile on Jack's face.
"S-Sorry.""It's alright." Jack's smiled widened. "You, um, you have a nice laugh, actually."
The redness of Skylar's cheeks deepened. "Thank you, I think." She mentally cursed at herself, annoyed at her own awkwardness. But then again.... It was the first time she was getting a compliment and from a boy that is. "Anyways! Let's, uh, let's continue with the game. Shall we?"
Jack knew she was desperate to change the topic. A smug smirk tugged at his lips, liking the fact that he was able to get her embarrassed. "Alright, whatever the lady wants." He teased, "Okay it's my turn. What happened in your past life? How did you become Skylar Storm?"
Skylar's smile faded as soon as those words left Jack's mouth. What happened to her? How did she become Skylar Storm? She wished she knew, but for the last decades she always kept asking the Moon, but as always, no response came.
Jack literally had a mini-heart attack when Skylar remained silent. He started to inwardly panic when he saw the downcast look on her face. 'Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! I messed it up! What's wrong with you Frost?!' He thought angrily to himself.
"I don't know." Skylar answered after a minute of silence. She released a sad sigh, her gaze going to the Moon. "I never knew about my past life, my memories. The day I was reborn I–" She cut herself off, much to Jack's dismay.
He really wanted to know more about her. Subconsciously, he grabbed a hold of Skylar's hand, her jumping from the sudden action and at how cold his hand was. He smiled softly at her. "It's okay. You can tell me." He encouraged her.
Skylar stared at him for a moment longer before a smile of her own appeared. "Sure why not." She took a deep breath before continuing, "I guess how this all started was from when I woke up. I woke in the middle of the ocean and don't ask how, I don't know either. It was dark and cold and I was scared but, but then I saw the Moon. It was so big and bright that it seemed to chase the darkness away... And when it did I, I wasn't scared anymore."
Doesn't that sound familiar, Jack thought. He felt the exact same way Skylar did when he first woke up from the pond. He gave Skylar's hand a reassuring squeeze, urging her to continue.
"By then, I didn't have full control of my powers. When I first realised that I was invisible, I got so scared that I caused a storm on a island. I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for Manny telling me to calm down and that my emotions trigger my powers, I would've probably destroyed that island." With her free hand, she scratched the back of her neck laughing nervously. "But then, then I went to clouds and I was home. The sky, the clouds, they welcomed me and from that day, I always stayed there."
Skylar didn't know why but once she finished her story, she felt as if a large weight has been lifted off her shoulders. She turned to face Jack, who was staring with her with a soft and gentle smile, returning it with one of her own.
So the two immortal teenagers just sat there, enjoying the silence and each other's company secretly, still holding hands. Unaware to the two, the Moon was smiling knowingly.
His plan was set into action.
