The sun outside was blinding as it rose over the treetops. I blinked against it, shielding my eyes whilst we hurried towards the parked car in the driveway.
"Isn't this the moment where I get my glamorous accessory?" I asked, leaning my arms on the roof of the car, looking expectantly at Sage.
She laughed, opening her door and resting her elbow on the top of the door, her cool, grey eyes glittering with wicked humour as she shook her head.
"Nah, the only place I'm into using blindfolds, is the bedroom." She smirked, "If I didn't want you to see where we were, I'd stick you in the boot."
I couldn't hide my amusement at her blatant honesty, her shoulders scrunching up in a small shrug as she continued:
"Do it right, or don't do it at all."
"Makes sense to me," I replied with a shrug, opening my door and returning her smirk, "Besides, the trunk wouldn't be the roughest ride I'd ever had." I teased, before sliding into my seat and shutting the door behind me.
The car rocked as Sage climbed into her side, and immediately fixed her intrigued eyes onto me.
"Well now at least I know what we can talk about on the drive over." She announced, turning the key in the ignition and steering the car away from the house.
"My sexual history?" I laughed. "I didn't know you were that interested."
Her eyes swept over me, the corner of her mouth arching up as we approached the gates.
"You're hot, and if I was single, then yeah... I would probably be interested." She said, lifting a hand in recognition to one of the men on guard. "But I'm happily engaged, so call it general curiosity. Or a lack of boundaries, whatever works for you."
"You and the immature one are engaged?" I asked, making another mental note of the new intel.
"Yup," She nodded, turning out of the drive and onto the road. "For about a year and a half now.
She smiled softly to herself as she took a right and sped up, her relaxed demeanour telling me that she wasn't feeling the need to be guarded about the revelation. I took the chance, it was a small opening, but I had to pounce on every one of them if I ever hoped to get any inside scoops.
"How long have you been together?"
"About a year and a half," She paused, her thumbs tapping against the steering wheel as she overtook the car in front, "This time anyway."
"You mean you've put up with him more than once?" I teased, earning another laugh as she nodded.
"Yeah, we were together when we were younger, back in England."
"Aww, a tale of childhood sweethearts?"
"Not in the sappy kind of way, no."
"So not the head cheerleader and football captain running off into the sunset?... Bummer!"
I laughed as she made a disgusted noise in the back of her throat.
"Do I look like a cheerleader type to you?" She shuddered at the mere thought, "Besides, cheerleading isn't as big in England, it's an American thing."
"So if it wasn't that, then how did you two get together?"
She went quiet for a moment, a far off look in her face as a small smile tugged at her lips.
"He was my friend, my only friend."
She spoke fondly, and I tried to imagine her younger.
"I didn't have the best upbringing, and when we met, I was the outcast kid, no one liked me, I didn't fit in, and I definitely didn't look the part."
