The gunshots were relentless, smashing through the house, getting closer and closer. The three of us ducked for cover behind the high counter top, whilst the kitchen began to explode around us, becoming littered with bullets. I felt a sting as some broken glass rained down from the side, skimming against my cheek and shoulder. Sage and Eddie already had their guns drawn, preparing themselves to take fire at the earliest opening. Whoever it was who had launched this assault, knew what they were doing, and they meant business they didn't let up. Their aggressive attack had us all pinned, leaving us unable to return fire for risk of being hit. But as they could be heard entering the building, there was about to be no other option, we had to take a chance.

"Nikki stay close," Sage shouted over the persistent bangs. "I'll get you to the office, and you can take cover in there."

There was a second of a pause in the firing, and Eddie seized it, leaping up and unleashing rounds through the broken window.

"No, I don't need to take cover." I argued, moving to get to my feet, but being dragged back down by Sage.

"I don't have a spare weapon on me, you'll be hurt or killed if you stay." She said seriously, with a no nonsense glare.

I knew that she was attempting to protect me, but I wasn't a damsel in distress, and since I had my weapon back, it was time to quit being powerless here.

I threw her hands off of me impatiently as there was a yell from the hallway and three returning shots.

"Did you really think that I wouldn't have a back up?" I said firmly, pulling my gun free and getting ready.

Her eyes widened for just a second, before she smirked, torn between disapproval and admiration as she nodded. I didn't care that I had just blown the ace up my sleeve. All I cared about was us all making it out of this alive.

"Alright. On three..."

Eddie's eyes met ours as we counted together, and then leapt out, all three of us returning fire in each direction as masked men poured through the hallway, guns drawn and firing away.

Sage and Eddie were excellent marksmen, their rounds landed on target with ease that suggested years of training, and bodies fell quicker than they were coming. Neither of them showed any mercy in the defence of their home. They made the attackers pay with determination. I stood with them, putting my own training to use, maybe even better than most of my legitimate jobs had ever given me that opportunity to. Reaching the staircase the room ahead was pure chaos. Men were fighting against each other, blood pouring from them as they punched, kicked, stabbed and slammed into one another. I saw Luke on the landing, taking cover behind the banister as two men wearing black camo gear fired at him, determined to put him down. The one closest to us glanced my way, his eyes barely finding me before I fired twice hitting him square in the chest. Before his body had hit the ground, I ended the one next to him as well, spotting Luke getting back to his feet a sliver of surprise passing over his face as he saw who had taken them out. A strike of heat passed my upper arm as a bullet narrowly missed me. I prepared to defend myself, but Sage had shot with expert precision from across the room, landing a headshot that made him history. I saw him fall to the ground, slamming into the hard marble floor that was now stained red in various areas with bodies of the fallen, laying scattered across the living area.

With their men falling rapidly, and the rest of the Calaway firm pouring out of the various doorways off the hall, the attackers began to retreat, their weapons firing a cover of bullets as they forced their way back out of the house.

"Sage?"

Luke's voice shouted from the top of the stairs, fear and pain strong in his tone as he called for the woman he loved.
