Candy's disappearing act after dinner wasn't going to work for me. "CANDY!" I hollered while standing outside of her bedroom door. After no response, I raise my hand to knock on the door when it swings open and she steps aside.
"Come on in, Tiff. We're no longer strangers."
I follow her into her bedroom, once again surprised at what I see. There is a hint of cowgirl country, but it is mostly frilly and girly with bubblegum pink bedsheets and a pink plaid comforter on top. Her bed was a dark, almost black, wood and it really made the color pop.
"Mind telling me what all of that was tonight?" I question her and she just gives me a friendly smile.
"What?" She replies smugly, "I was just introducing you to some of my friends."
"You're so full of shit."
"It's not my fault that both of them were ready to whip it out and measure in order to get your attention."
"Oh no, that is not what was going on tonight. You might as well hung a sign around my neck that said, 'flirt with me'"
She snickers and sits down on the edge of her bed. "It isn't often that we get young and available women in Valley View. I told you, by the time they hit our age they're typically married. Pretty sure they just they could smell the new blood in the water."
"Can you not talk about me like I'm some type of prey? I'm not even sticking around long. Why would they want to give me that much attention?"
Candy grabs my arm and pulls me down beside her. "Oh Tiff, let me tell you about this thing called, "casual sex."
I shove her away, but she loops her arm in mine and pulls me back to her. "Why aren't they trying to vie for you attention if we're such a rare breed?"
"They aren't really my type, Tiff."
"Seriously?" I reply perhaps with a bit too much shock. "Tall, handsom, and rugged cowboys seem exactly up your alley."
"I prefer mine with a little less penis and a little more boob."
I look at her for a few moments and when her explanation hits me I cover my face with my hands and start laughing. "Have I told you that I love you? So since they aren't your type, you're trying to put them on me?"
"Listen, babe, I'm just trying to perform some community service here. They're handsome men, you're a beautiful woman, why not try to match those two together and y'all can make some fireworks?"
"Even if I don't plan on being here for long?"
"That is the BEST reason to get it on. What's the saying, "save a horse, ride a cowboy?"
"You're too much, Candy. I cannot with your one-liners."
"Stick around, princess," she swings her arm over my shoulder, "I'm full of them."
"I bet you are."
"Alright girly, I'm going to hop in the shower so I can wash the smell of the diner off of me. If you want to take the bed while you're here, I am more than happy to sleep on the couch."
"No way," I object, "You have literally saved me today. I'm perfectly fine with taking the touch and not putting you out anymore."
"If that is what you want. There are extra blankets and sheets in the hall closet so you can take whatever you want. I wish I could be a better hostess tonight, but I have to be up at 3:30 and downstairs for 4:00 for morning prep so I need to get going to bed."
