MIDDLE OF JUNE
Winter hung around a little too long for my liking and Spring seemed to only pop up for a few weeks before the temperatures became tortuous and the humidity was through the roof. The preschool was on summer break, which meant I was only working part-time and even though Candy was always busy working at the diner, she managed to get a Friday and Saturday off. We made plans to pick up her “friend” from Harlington named Sheila and head to Fargo for a little girl’s getaway trip.
“Promise me that you won’t find a hot cowgirl and leave me for her?” Jimmy came up from behind me and pressed his body up against mine as I was doing some last minute packing.
“Oh Jimmy, you know I love a stick shift over a manual,” I reach behind me and palm at his crotch. I feel him grow beneath my hand and he lets out a low groan.
“Fuck….when does Candy get here?”
“Candy is already here!” Her voice holler from the hallway and then she peeks into our bedroom. “Hey horndogs.”
I turn around and kiss Jimmy on the lips. I start to walk away, but he hooks me around the waist and pulls me back to him for a longer and deeper kiss. “I changed my mind, I don’t want you to go.”
Candy makes a huffing sound and she ends up grabbing my elbow and pulling me away from Jimmy. “Sorry, Jim Jim, she’s mine for the weekend.”
I blow Jimmy a kiss as she pulls me away, “I’ll be good, I promise.”
“And I promise to bring her back in one piece.”
Candy and I make our way into the living room and I slip on my tennis shoes. A few moments later, Jimmy comes out with my luggage and sets it next to the door. “I guess that means I’m just going to sit in my boxers on the couch and watch TV and drink beer all weekend.”
I give him a little punch on the shoulder, “That’s the spirit, cowboy!”
“Can I at least take your bag downstairs for you?”
“Yes, you can. Thank you, handsome.”
Jimmy heads down to Candy’s truck first and Candy and I follow soon after. Jimmy and I kiss a little more. It seems like every time I try to get in the truck, he pulls me back for another kiss. Candy finally has enough and pushes me away from him and into the truck. Jimmy gives Candy a hug and kiss on the cheek and then leans into the cab while Candy starts up the truck,
“You two be good and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
“I don’t think so, Jimmy, she needs to have way more fun than that.”
“That’s enough from you. I’m loads of fun.”
I place my hands on his cheeks and kiss his lips. “I love you, Jimmy. I’ll talk to you tonight.”
“I love you too, sweetheart. Drive safe, Candy!”
“I will, see you later, Jimmy.”
We finally get on the road and Candy turns up the music a little. I kick off my shoes and curl my legs up under my body and get comfortable.
“So this is the first time you’re going to be away from him, huh?”
“Yeah. It is kind of weird to think about. I know I’m going to miss him, but I am so excited for this weekend and especially to meet Sheila.”
“Yeah, yeah, she’s been on me for months to meet you. She was out of town a lot for work though and I’ve been swamped, it just hasn’t worked to get you two together until now.”
