Revenant shifted his weight on the ledge as he watched two figures approaching the base. One in a familiar orange jacket, and the other; His target. His steel hand tightened its grasp on the edge as pebbles cracked and crumbled under his feet, slowly rising from his crouched position. Sunlight gleamed off the sharp edges of his shoulders.
He observed the two interact for a moment, his optic processors analyzing every expression and movement that provided him with more data. That base more than likely had the rest of the blonde's team; too much of a mess to bother with. This seemed to be rather irritating considering the static edged growl that slipped in to his tone. "Too many sheep in the herd..."
Revenant's yellow gaze landed on Wraith as he narrowed them, humming. "Not if the black sheep wanders off.." Part of him was again irritated that he had to wait, let alone come so close to his target only to circle back.
"Now. The waiting game."—
Wattson continued down an incline, Wraith close behind. The two of them trailed droplets of water across the dirt from running back across the river, making the journey back a bit squeaky whenever their walking slowed.
Renee spoke as they stepped and jumped over rocks. "So who's the guy with the panels on his arms? Curly hair?" Natalie perked when she realized who she was referring to, "You must mean Elliot! We call him Mirage." Renee had no response at first, pausing for a moment as she stepped over a rock.
"He's annoying." She replied with a half smirk. Natalie burst in to laughter, not expecting her response at all. "He's j-!!" Natalie started but cut short with a yelp as her boot caught a rock and her other heel slipped from beneath her, throwing her weight forward.
Renee jolted and lunged forward, snatching the back of her jacket as she tried to lean back to stop her from falling. This failed and quickly yanked her forward as well. She reacted immediately and pulled Wattson to her chest just as they hit the ground and bounced apart after a few feet.
Renee's head spun as she lurched forward off the grass they'd rolled down to, swatting her black hair out of her face as she regained her balance. "Natalie?!" She called as she stumbled to her feet and straightened, spinning around when she heard movement.
Wattson rose from a tall patch of grass, swinging her leg over a rock and wiping leaves off of her jacket arm. "Oui! Im okay! Are you alright?" She jogged over, coming to a stop with a bright smile on her face. This confused Wraith, who's heart was at a steady thump. How was she always so happy? They'd just gone rolling down a rocky hill, and she'd failed to stop her from falling. She wasn't mad?
Natalie reached forward and plucked a flower from Renee's hair, spinning it between her fingers as she offered it to her with a now amused smirk. "Souvenir?" Despite looking a bit confused and wordless in surprise, she no longer seemed nearly as worried that the blonde had been hurt. She lifted her hand and carefully took the flower as to not damage its magenta petals.
Renee gave her a faint smile of relief and amusement, "Thanks." She replied, finding the gesture sweet. 'Someone's looking at you' she jolted as she looked up the small incline near the base doors. Anita stopped when she recognized them. "For the love'a-! Paquette, you realize you had us scared shitless?" She gestured by throwing an arm out in the direction of the rest of the island. "Swear-... You-.. Two, okay?" She half corrected mid sentence, examining the two from where she stood.
Wattson gave Wraith a small elbow to the shoulder, "Oui, thanks to Renee." The blonde looked over at her, making her smile a bit under her assuring blue gaze.
Anita slightly lifted one brow, "M-Hm." She gestured to the doors behind her with a thumb over her shoulder. "You'll have plenty of time to explain over lunch." She replied. Natalie gave a small nod as the soldier looked to Renee. "Gibraltar and Octane are cookin tonight. You like vegan burritos or sushi?" She asked.
Renee paused at the offhand question. She realized this was her way of saying she was welcome, and couldn't help but notice the flutter of hope and relief that eased the knot in her chest. "Surprise me." She replied.
Anita gave a smirk, nodding. She gave a forward wave for the two to follow as she turned and headed inside through the doors. Natalie started up the same path, raising both arms as if in triumph before spinning around to face her, walking backwards. "We haven't had sushi in weeks! You're going to love it! I just hope there's no wasabi this time. My mouth was on fire!" She paused as her arms dropped again, "Well not really of course. But it was spicy!"
Renee shook her head with an amused hum, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear as she followed Natalie inside. Despite where her thoughts were at the moment, she paused at the doorway. The warmth of the sunlight on her back made her turn to face it, her silvery gaze trailing the mountainous horizon far beyond anywhere she'd travelled. With an inhale, the genuine fresh air that filled her lungs reminded her that she was no longer in the lab. Cold and dim. Constantly reeking of sterilized equipment, and the steel walls that had begun to rust by decades of rain.
Something about where Renee stood felt... Right. Like each step she'd taken had lead her correctly, each leap of faith she'd taken. This was the right path.
