Natalie jolted awake to the sound of an alarm in her room. She lurched forward off her pillow, her blonde hair feathering over her brows. She blinked in confusion as she pushed the blue covers off her legs and stood off the bed.
The screen at her desk displayed a gridded map, a segment of lines marked in red. 'Barrier Breached' The screen flashed. The segments seemed to be glitching on the screen from 'online' to 'offline' to nothing at all. By the of the flickering dot, a prowler had gone through a downed part of the barrier. She quickly touched the screen and the alarm stopped, the beeping now coming from her communicator on the table.
Wattson nearly tripped over the leg of the rolling chair, pushing it back to the desk as she hurried across the room. She started pulling her gear on, quickly fixing her hair and pulling her hood over her head on her way out her door.
When had part of the barrier gone down? And why were the grid markers not displaying properly? She'd wired everything herself, and it hadn't had any difficulties in months. Whatever the issue was, if the barrier was actually down, even in a small segment, it had to be fixed immediately. Prowlers stalked the barrier often, searching for a way in and giving up only to return later. They'd be over run in a matter of hours if any more discovered the opening.

Renee pushed the covers off of her as she swung her legs off the edge of the bed. Her hand lifted to the forehead, brushing her black hair from her face as she narrowed her eyes, looking about the room. Where..? Oh...
As she set her hand back on her lap, looking to the bed, she realized she'd slept through the whole night without being disturbed. Few nightmares, and no one came busting in to the room in the middle of the night to drag her out.
Renee stood from the bed and started getting dressed. She wasn't sure what time it was... but she hoped she hadn't slept in too late. Sleeping in till 2pm probably wouldn't be a great first impression. She rolled her eyes at herself, realizing she'd already made a few first impressions. None of which were too awesome... but, they didn't seem to care too much.
Wraith parted her door, peering out it and down both ends of the hall. She noticed Natalie's door open, knowing it was only open when she wasn't there. She noticed the faint pang of disappointment at the realization. Her brows lowered at herself, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear as she stepped out of her room and started down the hall.
Why was she always on her mind..? Even among the others, a reminder of Natalie's laugh in her memory would put a faint smile on her face. Or recalling one of her slightly-less than creative puns. Renee shook her head, knowing they were just close friends. But..

 But

No.. They were just friends. She couldn't let herself feel anything more than that about another person anyways. It made her vulnerable if Natalie were to ever turn on her. She'd be an easy target with her guard down. She'd never make that mistake again. Even if it meant stood alone in her darkness, she would do so without risk. No one would ever use her like Calland did.

Natalie kneeled beside the signal booster, examining it with a confused and disturbed expression. "How...?" It had been speared by something the size of her wrist, it's inner components completely mangled. A prowler hadn't done this. It was too intentional and direct.
This reminded her to lift her gaze, looking over her shoulder for the prowler that had gotten through. She hadn't seen it and wondered if it had simply gone back the way it had came after finding nothing to hunt. At least she hoped this as she pried the top off of the signal box.
Her gloved hands moved wires aside, tilting a broken motherboard that immediately snapped. She sighed. The entire signal booster had to be replaced, which meant she had to either make a new one, or find another from the nearest abandoned facility. And she didn't have the pieces to make another.
"Looks like I'll be stretching my legs today!" Wattson decided as she stood from the grass, brushing off her knees. She narrowed her eyes against the morning light ever the horizon, adjusting a bit as she headed through the open segment of the barrier.
