"you what?"

making him repeat himself. of course.

the blonde gave a huff of hot air that almost sounded flustered at the question. it wasn't hard to draw emotion from him this easily- and shouta almost relished in that fact. a snicker was hidden carefully behind the hand that propped up his face, elbow resting on the table.

"i don't know how to tie a tie, okay?"

hizashi squeaked, pulling the tie in question out from its messy tuck under his collared white button up. his little glare flickered between both shouta and the tie and this time, the ravenette couldn't suppress a small snicker. that noise just made the tomato-faced boy even redder.

it could barely even be called a snicker or a laugh at all, with how unnatural it sounded, but hizashi loved it. even if it was directed at him. shouta peeked up at him with a raised eyebrow.

".. and?"

"and what, eraser?"

"do you want me to help you, or are you gonna use that clip-on bowtie and look like a dork? because i think letting me help you would be.. the most rational approach."

the condescending tone shouta's voice held, along with the gentle flaunting of his own complete tie, produced another huff from hizashi.

"help me."

...
a small shuffle of movement and shouta was close. way too close for hizashi's liking.

"pull each side out. one side should be longer than the other, um.. no- not like that- "

his voice fell out and aizawa stepped closer, grabbing at the tie in gentle frustration. his hands almost touched hizashi's and the blonde swore up and down that he could feel sparks. he couldn't be mad at hizashi for something this small, but the other's constant blabbering and his own wonky sleep schedule definitely wasn't helping his nerves. he could almost feel the blonde's body stiffen up as he got closer. a tight swallow filled the tense silence around the two and shouta's face shifted in soft confusion.

"am i.. choking you?"

"wh- hUh?"

shouta frowned, taking his own hands away from the tie with a slight tilt of his head.

"you aren't breathing."

hizashi's eyes widened and even he seemed to just now realize how long his breath had been hitched inside his throat. he took a deep breath and sputtered into his elbow, managing a tiny "i'm okay!" through crackly bits of his quirk popping in. the ravenette's eyes narrowed in silent concern as his hands grazed his ears, ready to plug them if he needed to. hizashi didn't have complete control over his quirk just yet, obviously.. but it only ever "malfunctioned" this badly when the blonde was under extreme emotions. excitement, anger, fear, sadness. maybe he was stressed.

"it's just a school dance."

hizashi blinked a bit.
did shouta actually think he was nervous about the dance? not..- well, being this close to him?
he gave a few leftover coughs and nodded, offering a sloppy smile. once shouta was pretty sure the blonde was okay, he returned to the task at hand.

"okay, so.. you tuck this over.."
his hands moved very carefully, closely following his words. there was a tight atmosphere that even shouta could feel. his eyebrows scrunched up and he got that face. that little thinking face that hizashi loved so much.

"uh.."

"are you good, sho- ..?
.. hey, sho- mmpf!"

they had a height difference. it wasn't big and it definitely didn't require shouta to get on his tip-toes. their chests bumped, hands almost interlocking before the ravenette stumbled- their lips now smushed together.. so awkwardly. shouta looked just as startled with what he'd caused, but it didn't seem like he'd be the first to pull away. so they were stuck to each other like glue.
after what felt like years, they pulled back. maybe at the same time. pure silence.

".. you need a mint."

shouta turned away rather quickly and moved to dig around in his school bag.. maybe an excuse to cover up the heat that was steadily claiming his face. hizashi just stood there, oblivious and shocked, his big eyes wide in an almost alien way. it took everything out of him not to explode.

".. o- okay."
