The demons advanced on them, looking like death on the move. None of them had eyes, their hands were long, black and thin like a spider. They crawled like insects too. Pushing down the urge to gag, Taya pelted down the mud road, pulling Matt along with her. He limped, grunting in pain.

They moved faster, sensing their prey. They made eerie noises, of vomiting and spitting. Feeling very sick, Taya moved faster, stumbling with Matt. She had an iron-grip on him, so that he'd stay with her.

The onidae were quick and agile, making their way smoothly amongst the rocks and debris. Matt huffed and stooped.

"I. Can't. Move. It. Hurts." He managed before collapsing on the ground, cradling his hurt ankle.

Taya made a frustrated sound. How was she going to get him out of this? She pulled on him, grunting with the effort. "Get up Matt. I know you can do this. We'll not run long, we'll find a safe place to hide. C'mon Mateo, come on."

He looked up at her, his face contorted in pain. "Taya-"

"No, we don't have time for this. Move."

Matt grimaced and stood on his feet, swaying a bit. He clenched his jaw. "Tay-tay, run."

She raised an eyebrow and turned to see that the onidae were almost upon them. Taya swore savagely under her breath earning an amused look from Matt. She jogged, her hand in Matt's. His hand was cold and clammy despite the heat.
They both went as fast as they could. Taya thought she could feel their hot, stinky breath on her neck, but she knew it was just her imagination.

"Shit, we don't have any weapons on us."

"You underestimate my intelligence Taya. I have weapons. In fact, they are enough for the both of us."

Taya rolled her eyes. "Okay then, genius. Hand me thy sword."

He grinned and pulled out a long dagger from a sheath. "Not a sword but it will do." He panted. The running and the pain was taking a toll on him.

Taya took it from him and flipped it in her hand, a wicked gleam in her eyes. There was a thin sheen of sweat on the both of them, but they weren't bothered.

Matt was slowing down and Taya was positive that the onidae were going to attack any moment.

She was right.

One of the spider-like creatures made a sound and launched itself on Taya. She spun and thrust the dagger forward, piercing the demon. It gave an unearthly howl and fell to the ground, twitching. Black fluid poured out of its wound.

Taya scrunched up her nose. "Have they heard of a bath? They stink."

Matt gave a dry chuckle. "They'll be interested if you offer to help."

"Oh yeah, I'll give 'em a tub bath with bubbles and-"

Taya skidded and threw the dagger at another onida. It stilled and jerked back. She removed the blade and wiped it on her jeans. "Pain."

Suppressing a grin, Matt coughed and pointed. "Look, your room. Let's go."

She nodded and ran, using up her last bit of energy.

They finally reached inside and Matt lay down on the bed with his muddy shoes making marks on the white blanket.

She flopped beside him and stretched languorously like a cat, her shirt riding up, giving Matt a view of her flat white, stomach.

He looked away. Taya smirked. "Does it hurt?"

"Yeah a lot. I think you said that you will nurse me back to health."
