So I thought it would be a fun little thing to discuss some coming out techniques. Some will be helpful and some are made to sound crazy for a laugh so I hope you enjoy these creative ways to come out.
1. So the first one is the less creative one but just tell them face to face! Go up to whoever it is and tell them that you have something to tell them; I don't recommend just blurting it out without giving a warning because that could make things a bit confusing for the other person/people that you are coming out to. I know that most people would be terrified of this but if you aren't then great this may be the best way for you
2. Write a letter. I know it sounds old fashioned but writing down your feelings and giving them is a lot easier than saying them out loud; I personally love writing letters so I'd find that the best for me to do. You can make it a short letter straight to the point or you could go into detail about what it means and what it means to you if it is for someone who may not understand it as much as others such as your grandparents who were born in a time where none of this was heavily talked about- at least not talked about in a positive way.
3. Send a text! We live in a world where most of us have access to some form of internet so why not use that to come out? Many people feel safer coming out over text and that's completely fine, I find talking about things over text much more easier than in person like for example if I'm feeling down, I tell my friends over text rather than in person.
4. Buy a pride flag and just walk around wearing it until the person you wanna come out to notices. This is a funny and interesting way to come out because it's kinda like coming out without words but make sure the person you wanna come out to knows the flag. You may be coming out as bisexual with a bi flag and they won't know what it is and if you don't wanna talk about it then you'll be stuck there but yeah if you feel brave and want some fun then I say go for it
5. Print it on a t-shirt. Nothing funnier than walking to a family dinner with a shirt saying "I'm gay!". Haha I'm only joking around, I think this one would work best with friends or if your family is very supportive then I say yes go for it! It's a fun and straight to the point way of coming out so why not?
6. Sing a song! There is songs online that are made for coming out or you could make your own! Creativity is key! Maybe even make a cover of your favourite song into a coming out song for a fun laugh!
7. Print out a banner. You know like the ones that say happy birthday on that you put on your windows? Why not make one that says "I'm gay" or whatever you are trying to come out as. It's a funny idea but I don't know if I'd ever be brave enough to do it haha
8. Make a coming out video on YouTube/ just a normal video for friends or family. Videos can be very beautiful and powerful and maybe you'd like to show who you are through film. Many people show their stories on YouTube to help other people and I think that is very powerful to see. If you wanna film a video and don't feel comfortable to share it online then why don't you make one and just send it to the person you want to speak to? Let your mind run wild and edit it however you want!
9. Hire a celeb on camio or fiverr to say it for you. This is a funny one. If you don't know what they are, they are websites where you can pay for a celebrity or anyone who works on the website to say and do what you want them to say so you could hire them to tell whoever you want to say that you're gay. It's a great way to surprise your friends and family and I think it would be a cute idea maybe.
10. Write a speech for your whole work place or school. This one is crazy and not many people would ever wanna do that but some people like sharing the message that it's okay to be who you are without being scared and if that is you, I say go for it. If people try and bring you down, remember that you are better than them! You're strong and worth everything!
So I hope these come in handy. If you try any of these, please tell me how it goes because I love hearing some beautiful coming out stories. Even if they don't accept you, you know that I always will. Thanks for reading, Alex (ps if you'd like to check out some of my other books I would much appreciate it)
