SEIS
This case is getting worse each day passed by. The number of patients that were admitted are now in critical condition. The isolation ward are now overwhelmed. The Chinese government gave an order that they will construct another two hospital for the Corona Virus patients. Most of the patients are using ventilators so they could breathe. The hospital itself is a chaos. I resume to my work and study the properties of the virus. Since it is an airborne virus, it could easily enter through our body via pores or anywhere the virus could penetrate for example, eyes. We study the virus counterattack patent in six straight hours but when we tried to patient Mr. Zhen Xiang, but it failed. Of course we ask the patients permission if we could test it on him, the patient agree right away because he'll do what it takes to recover even if it meant to be a guinea pig. The thought of that saddens me.
The patent did fight the virus and able to block them but not completely. The patient's immune system boost. But we cannot consider that a win-win situation.
We go back to the laboratory to examine it again. I am so drown into the study not until someone nudge at me. And that irritates me the most.
"What is your-- oh good evening Dr. Li, what brings you here?, " I immediately backfire my intentions when the head doctor is in front of me.
"I call you several time Ms. Solijon but you never responded, forgive me to disturb you. I was informed you test the patent to patient Zhen Xiang, " he stated. Oh, this is terrible.
"Oh, Its okay doctor Li and I'm sorry that the patent didn't work, " I said and bowed. I feel ashamed because I cannot save the patient's life out of risk.
"You don't have to be sorry Ms. Solijon, patient Zhen has been relieve now, both his lungs now are almost free from pneumonia. But we're going to monitor the patient's health status. Thank you so much to your hardwork, " doctor Li bowed in front of me as well as the other doctors behind me. I never felt great, a warm feeling in my chest. Now, I'm determined to complete the patent.
"I'll try my best doctor Li--, " I was cut off by the sound of the alarm. This means a serious problem. Everyone here in the laboratory rush to the room where the alarm set off. An elderly patient who has a diabetes and chronic heart disease have suffered from difficulty in breathing. The nurses assist the patient to breathe through the ventilator but his pulses went drastically down! Doctor Li order us to transfer the patient to the another isolation room.
"Prepare the defibrillator!, " doctor Li shouted. We help the other nurses to tend the patient. We apply the gel. Then other nurses inject a vial to boost it's immune system and another vial of potassium to awaken the patients heart but it's now in flat line. This cannot be happening! "360 joules, "
"Clear!, " we stepped behind"360 joules, "
"Clear!, "
"CLEAR!," tears are threatening to fall. We lost a patient. Who battles the virus yet it died! We are deafening the silence. Each of us slumped to the ground and silently grieve to another fallen comrades.
I could feel a lump in my throat, I can't take it any longer. We are trained to be professional handling our emotions but we are human being! We have emotions. Then another alarm set and another alarm.
What a disastrous day for us.
