Anger Fizzles Out

It had been almost a week since Delphinia had last spoken to Carri or Sirius. She didn't quite know why this was hitting her so hard, especially when the only crime that had occurred was the procrastination of telling the truth. Sirius hadn't said anything about a new girlfriend, but no one had asked. Carri hadn't explained she had a boyfriend, but then again no one ever asked her where she went during her free time.

Maybe Delphinia couldn't forgive so easily because she had seen Carri half naked in Sirius's bed? Or maybe it had something to do with that fluttering feeling she had felt so often when around Sirius? No... it couldn't possibly be....

Delphinia was walking alone in the corridor, no destination ahead. It was a Saturday, and all of her friends were outside. The sun was finally showing its face after constant rain and drizzle since the beginning of school. Laughs and cheers were echoing through the open windows, and Delphinia simply smiled at all of the joy.

Coming to a set of double doors, Delphinia realized she was at the library. Shrugging her shoulders, Delphinia pushed open a door and walked into the quiet, seemingly empty room.

A favorite spot of hers was at the back corner of the library. It was secluded, and it had its own little window that lit up the area fit for one. Delphinia walked through the tables and shelves slowly. Why be in any rush? But, about halfway through the shelves Delphinia saw the one person she had hoped she could avoid.

Trying to silently sneak by Ascella, who was browsing through a shelf of books with a certain determination in her face, Delphinia tiptoed lightly passed the opening in which her sister was in.

"Delphinia?" Ascella called. "Trying to sneak away from me?"

Delphinia, having gotten almost all the way out of sight, sighed and walked back to face Ascella. "How could I?"

"I'm not sure, really. My senses have heightened ever since... well let's say I'm better at noticing things out of place than I was when I was eleven."

"Slytherin did you well, then," Delphinia said. She was trying to end this conversation quickly, without any injuries on her part.

"As much as I wish that were true, I'd say Gryffindor did you worse," Ascella smirked. She tore her gaze away from the book spines she had been examining and turned to look at Delphinia. "And I am to believe you liked it better before we were Sorted?"

"No, you're not. Whatever happens, Ascella, I'd rather have friends who actually love me, than a family who doesn't."

"Now, Delphinia, who ever said your family doesn't love you?" Ascella said airily.

"I don't believe people express love in such ways our parents do," Delphinia said. "But I wouldn't know how our parents express love."

"I thought you did. Hmm.... Well, I do suppose I was wrong," Ascella said. Then, she walked toward Delphinia. Stopping right beside Delphinia, the sisters facing opposite directions, she said, "I don't know how you're going to explain this conversation to Blacky over there."

Delphinia gasped and turned to see where Ascella had pointed. There, standing in the shadow of a bookshelf 10 yards away, Sirius stood. Delphinia turned to where Ascella had been, but she had already fled the area.

"I guess that has something to do with your knee?" Sirius said.

Delphinia turned back to face him. His grey eyes almost made her melt, but she kept her stance and said slowly, "We need to go somewhere more private." She then walked past Sirius, and continued on her way to the back corner of the library.

Once to the spot where Delphinia so loved, she turned to face Sirius, sighed, then searched the shelf for a certain book. Running her fingers along the spines of different books, she finally found the one. Muggle Solutions For Simple Problems, read the spine of a tattered red book. Delphinia pulled at the top of the book, and almost immediately a door opened in the shelf.

"Well, come on," Delphinia said. She walked through the door, and once Sirius was in the space, she closed the door behind them.

The small space was small; it had one chaise lounge chair and a small side table. The tall window was on the east wall, and the sill was wide enough for a person to climb into. Books lined shelves on this side of the case as well, and Delphinia smiled to herself, overwhelmed by her favorite space.

"You want to window of the chair?" Sirius asked.

"I'll take the chair," Delphinia said. She sat in the comfortable chair, and watched at Sirius sat in the window.

The two sat in silence for a while.

"What did Ascella mean when she said, 'I'd say Gryffindor did you worse'?" Sirius asked suddenly.

"I don't know," Delphinia said. She hadn't spoken to Sirius for a week, and she most definitely did not want their first conversation to be about her family.

"Fine. What did you mean when you said you don't know how your parents express love?" Sirius queried.

"You really want me to explain simples phrases when you still haven't explained to me why you never told me about you and Carri?" Delphinia shot. She crossed her arms. She was still a little upset, though not because Sirius hadn't told her about Carri. Because... could it be because she... no... they were just friends.

Sirius sighed. "I guess you're right."

Delphinia was shocked. She hadn't expected Sirius to cave so easily. "Well?"

"Carri didn't want anyone to know she had a b-," Sirius paused. He eyed Delphinia skeptically, then continued. "She didn't want anyone to know she ahd a boyfriend. So we kept it a secret."

"Except for James, Remus, and Peter right?" Delphinia snapped.

"Actually, all they knew was that a girl kept sneaking into our dorm when they were in the lavatory. They didn't know it was Carri until you said it," Sirius finished.

"My fault then," Delphinia said.

"No, not at all," Sirius said coolly. "I spoke to Carri and she's sorry she kept it a secret from you, and she's really wanting to talk to you."

"I'm sure," Delphinia said.

"Delph, come on," Sirius said. "Not everyone is as confident as the rest of us. No matter how easily you, me, James, or Lily can express our love lives, Carri isn't the same. I made her a promise."

"Yeah, yeah, ok," Delphinia said. "I don't really care anymore anyways." What a lie! "I'm sorry for being so stuck up."

"You're not stuck up," Sirius said, smiling.

"Aw, thanks," Delphinia laughed.

A moment's silence was soon broken by Sirius. "Now, I've explained, you explain."

"Sirius... I-." Delphinia couldn't tell him yet. She wasn't ready for him to know.

"Listen, if you aren't ready to tell me, it's fine. Just let me know how much I need to worry about you until you are ready to talk," Sirius said.

"Sirius, I can't thank you enough," Delphinia said. She really was relieved that he wasn't going to continue to pry.

"It's nothing," Sirius said. "Just promise me you will tell me soon."

"I promise," Delphinia said.

Standing up, Sirius and Delphinia hugged each other. Sirius's warm embrace helped Delphinia, in what way she didn't quite understand. But, one thing she did know, was that the fluttering feeling she had been feeling so often, definitely had something to do with Sirius.
