It had been 2 hours since Minato left the Uzumaki-Namikaze residence. His family's worries grew stronger with each passing rumble of thunder. The knock on the door did nothing to settle the vast pits growing within their stomachs.

Kushina hurried to the door in hopes of seeing her husband's bashful, smiling face, despite the heavy downpour. Though what greated her at the door was the exact opposite. It was the head of foreign affairs, Jiraiya.

Jiraiya has been a friend of the family for many years. He was like a father to Minato and a godfather to his children. But, due to his duties regarding foreign affairs, he hadn't been around as much. And although it was pleasant to see his face after such a long time, Kushina and her children were still worried over the sudden disappearance of her husband.

"Jiraiya? What are you doing here?" Said Kushina. "I mean, you know, not that it's bad to see you, it's just... why did you decide to appear at such a late hour? Oh, and don't even get me started on the weather! Here, come in before you get even more soaked." Said Kushina as she stepped aside to let Jiraiya into their humble abode.

"Thank you." Mumbled Jiraiya.

The two then proceeded to step back into the main part of the house. Jiraiya sat at the round table, which also seated Naruto and Kurama, while Kushina handed him a towel and a cup of hot coffee.

There was kind of an awkward silence as they all sat there. Words wanting to be said but instead falling short on their journey to eager, awaiting ears.

Jiraiya decided to speak up. To spill what was eating him out of his mind. He was here on important matters after all. It's just that the moment the words left his mind, entered the void through his mouth, and escaped into the open air, would everything become true. He didn't want to believe it but, he had seen it with his own eyes. But then again, can't eyes be deceiving?

Despite his inner turmoil, he finally let the words escape. Though whispered in a small, hushed voice, they still harshly impacted Kushina and her children.

"What!?" Said Kushina. "Say that again!"

Jiraiya was reluctant but, with Kushina's tone, he knew it wouldn't be wise to object.

He sighed. "I said... M-Minato's in the hospital."

Kushina dropped her coffee mug, causing its contents to be wasted all over the fine, wooden floors and instantly began to sob with tears of anguish.

"I-... H-How!?" She sobbed. "I mean he was just here, how could this happen!?" "What happened Jiraiya!?"

"I-I-I don't know." Jiraiya stammered. "I got a frantic call from Yahiko saying he found Minato lying in the mud a few minutes away from his office and didn't know what to do. I rushed there from my post to see what had happened with my own eyes. After that, we gathered him up and rushed him to Tsunade. She told me to inform you guys and well... now I'm here."

"Well we can't just sit around!" Yelled Kushina. "We have to go see him! Boys, grab your boots and your coats."

"Y-Y-Yes ma'am." Stammered the two, teary eyed boys in unison.

TIMESKIP TO THE HOSPITAL

The hospital reaked of sterilizer and loomed with the eerie feeling of sickness and death.
