TW - Violence

Speeding down the road I live on, I find myself slowing down not ready to be home just yet. It was well past 1 am on a Thursday night. The adrenaline of the race still pumping through my veins as well as having a new competitor. I had school in the morning, college to be exact, and needed to go to sleep my mind slowly calming the more I drove.

I pulled down the secret path to my little garage shop i keep my mechanical things. I cut off the headlights so no one can see me pull in. I clicked the button on garage door opener making to door open much loader than necessary.

I pulled in shutting off the car. The garage door closed behind me with a thud. The garage wasn't huge, it only had room for a large tool box, some extra tires, and my car.

With a slightly sad sigh I leaned my head on the steering wheel. Sucking in a sharp breath and holding it in. I swallowed roughly when my thoughts started swimming around dangerously in my mind.

I always hated this part of my day. I hated coming home to see my drunken father passed out on the couch with a beer bottle in his hand waiting for me to come home just to tell me how much of a disappointment I am.

Some days I would get lucky and he would be in his room so I could sneak in quietly, by the morning he would have forgotten or be too drunk to say anything. Before I left this morning he was already mad that I didn't make him breakfast and wanted me home early but the race tonight was a high stakes race worth a lot of money. A lot of illegal money was riding on my winning that race. I'm sure there was a lot on the tatted guy that I beat too.

Pulling my head up I opened my car door and stepped out grabbing my hoodie off of the passenger seat and closing the door. I left the keys in the little flower pot by the door so he doesn't find them and decide to take my car for a drunken spin.

I pull the hoodie over my head and pull the hood up shielding my face. With one last glance at the car, I left making the walk to my house. It wasn't a far walk but it was far enough that the garage was hidden by the mass of trees.

I made it to the front door and with a sigh I opened the door. The pungent smell of stale alcohol and sweat hit me making me gag. It smelled horrible, you would think by smelling it my entire life I'd be used to the smell but it was still disgusting and made me want to vomit.

"Where the hell were you?!" I heard my father slur. I look around the door to see him sitting on the couch with a beer in his hand and a wife beater shirt and khaki pants on that looked like they hadn't been washed is weeks. Old stains rested all over his clothing making him look even more disgusting.

"I was out." I said shortly closing the door and walking deeper into the mess we call home. I was tired and just wanted to sleep the night away.

"Watch your fucking tone you disrespectful whore." I rolled my eyes making my way past him to go upstairs. "Don't roll your fucking eyes at me bitch." He slammed his hand down on the coffee table his feet were once propped on. I stopped walking but only for a second my shoulders slumped.

"Don't walk away from me when I'm talking to you!" He yelled out slightly slurring his words. I kept walking, ignoring him, until I heard him stand up and in the next moment his half full beer bottle was smashed against my skull.

A sharp hair coursed through my head spreading like wildfire. My eyes watered at the impact. I stumbled forward grabbing the wall for support.

Seconds later I felt the burn of my hair being pulled from my scalp. He held my hair and harshly ripped me from the wall. Causing me to whimper. He slung me to the floor and straddled my waist. I shot my hands up to protect my face as much as I could.

He ripped my wrist away from my face pinning them above my head with his left hand no doubt leaving harsh bruises in place of his hand.

"You listen to me, you whore!" He spit at me. Scrunching his face in disgust. I was trying to pull my wrists from his grip but it wouldn't budge.

He pulled his free hand back and sent a punch to the left side of my face sending my face flying to the right. He swung his fist at me a few times leaving cuts with his one wedding ring on his finger.

I brought my knee up into his back making him jolt forward a little and his grip around my wrist to loosen enough for me to wiggle my right hand out and hit him square in the jaw. He tumbled over from the pure force I inflicted to his face.

My heart was hammering in my chest urging me to get up and run. I scrambled to my feet trying to get away from me. I got to the third step from the bottom when his hand grabbed my ankle making me fall and smack my chin to the ground. I cried out in pain still trying to get free. I shook my leg around trying to get out of his grip. I pulled my knee up and shot it back out at him hitting him directly in the face. A sickening crack echoed through the small house.

He let go, grabbing his face giving me enough time to get to my room and close the door. I didn't have a lock so I used my weak body to hold the door shut.

I heard his footsteps come up the stairs while he breathes harder.

"Open the fucking door!" He banged on the door and pushed it trying to get it open. I squeezed my eyes shut hoping he would just go away. The banging finally stopped but I knew better than to let my guard down.

I felt a sharp pain to my lower back making me gasp at the pain, I pulled away from the door and clutching my back. I felt the wet sticky substance of blood seeping through my shirt from the injury. I turned around towards the door to see what happened to be met with a knife sticking 3 inches out of the hollow door.

I heard his cynical laugh echo through the door. Before his steps got farther from the door.

I was bleeding a lot and needed medical attention immediately. I stumbled to my window, opened it and pushing the screen out. I pushed my way through the window loosing more blood in the process.

My leg caught the window sill on my way out making me plummet to the ground. I landed on my back making all of the air in my lungs leave my body. I couldn't breathe or move but I needed to leave this place. In agony I stood up screaming at the pain that coursed through my body. I stumbled my way to the garage my heart hammering in my chest feeling like it was about to explode. I grabbed my keys and got in the car opening the garage door. I turned the car on and peeled down the driveway, not even caring about the garage door.

I had no idea where I was going, only that wherever it was, was better than here. I didn't care if I died on the way to my unknown destination.

Going at an ungodly speed my vision started to fade and my limbs started to feel heavy. I slowed down when I felt like I was gonna throw up.

Pulling to the side of the empty midnight road I opened my car door, falling out of the door straight on the ground spewing blood from my mouth. I turned my body so that I was staring at the mass of little balls of fire. I wonder if I will be one of those when I die?

Lying on the cold hard ground with my blood pooling around my shivering body a cold sweat crept its way around my body blanketing me. My lips and finger felt numb. I couldn't move my body. Breathing was hard and raspy like I couldn't get enough air into my lungs.

I was gonna die here and I was completely okay with it. I laughed at the irony making more blood spew from my mouth, I coughed as I chocked on my own blood making pain surge through my body. My vision was blurry and there was a ringing in my ears. All I could do was blink as I gave the stars one last half assed smiled

The cold air wrapped around me like a warm blanket and I welcomed it with open arms. My eyes felt heavy and started fluttering closed as more and more blood pooled around me .

Who knew the cold could feel so warm?
