New school, new start they say.

Absolute bullshit. It's just a way to convince teenagers that it's okay it be scared about going school and that everyone is going to be shitting themselves as much as you are.

Away to start off fresh, a new chapter almost. But who believes that? not me.

I sit up in bed, grabbing my phone. It was 07:08am. The pains of waking up early to go to a new school and have no friends.

Again. Yes again. I never had many friends but when I did they always turned out to be bitches or whatever. You know what I mean.

I rubbed the gross crunchy things from my eyes and slumped out of bed towards the bathroom.

I lazily pushed the door open and padded to in front of the mirror and studied my reflection.

Clear skin game was strong today minus the few blackheads on my chin, but nothing a little concealer wouldn't cover up.

I ran the tap and let the sink half fill up before cleaning my face and patting it dry with a towel and heading back to my room.

I stood in front of the wardrobe, contemplating whether to wear band merch or not. So I played it was with 'Basement' emblem shirt paired with some black skinnies and a black and red flannel. (a/n it's one of those shirts that has a small design on the front n big one on the back)

I was a true tumblr emo, obviously.

I slipped on my lucky socks because I'm a sucker for superstitious things.

I then proceeded to do my minimal make up because what's the point in looking good for school when there's no one to impress, right?

I wondered downstairs grabbing my backpack on the way out of my room, along with my phone and earbuds.

I entered the kitchen to be greeted with a note on taped to the coffee machine that read:

"Hi sweetie, sorry I couldn't say goodbye but I had an important meeting to attend at 9 and it takes an hour and a half to get there. But anyway good luck, I know you can do and please try making friends x
Love Mum x"

Typical mother, unable to send me off to my first day at another part of the governments version of hell.

I placed my bag down on the floor by the backdoor so I knew where it was when I left.

I poured myself a mug of coffee and sat down at the kitchen table and scrolled through instagram.

It was around 8:03 which meant I had to run upstairs, brush my teeth and run back down put my vans on and run to the bus stop in record time.

Surprisingly, 3 minutes later I was detangling my headphones while waiting for my bus to arrive.

The slight autumnal breeze was nice despite the icy feel to it.

My earbuds were detangled and in my ears playing the peaceful music of Brand New into my head. Oh Jesse Lacey how you could make music that made a 17 year old girl feel this way.

The bus screeched to a halt and I clambered on board giving the bus driver a mumble of a good morning before letting my eyes dart around the bus, finding a place where I could sit.

The doors shut behind me and I sat in an empty seat parallel with a boy grinning at me like an idiot.

I pulled one earbud out and said, "Can I help you? Do you want me to pose for a photo? It'll last longer."

He seemed startled by my bluntness and apologised and said, "I'm Tyler but I couldn't help but notice your shirt."

He pointed towards my torso and looked amazed, "yeah and what?" I replied again, totally confused.

"Basement. You're a girl and you're wearing a t shirt, which is odd for a girl at our school and most importantly, it's a Basement shirt." He beamed but with a slight nervousness laced in every word said.

"Oh yeah, I'm quite the fan," I half smiled looking down, "I actually wore it to avoid any attention so I wouldn't be called an emo." I finished with a slight laugh.

"No it's fine, I would never call you emo, actually it's really cool that you like Basement." He smiled.

"May I?" Tyler asked pointing at the space beside me.

"Yeah of course, it's Tyler right?"

"That's me for sure." He replied while moving next to me.

"I'm Anna." I said putting my hand out for him to shake, which he did with an oddly firm grip.

"Nice to meet you, Anna."

We talked up a storm as more and more people got but he said none of his friends got on this bus so we needn't worry.
* * *
We were arguing over what the best Brand New album was when we pulled up in front of the school.

"I'm shitting myself." I said, to no one in particular.

"It's okay newbie, you'll be fine, I'll come to the main office with you and you can get your timetable and you'll probably end up in my form because you're with me and we have like 20 people in it." He said as we headed off the bus.

"Yeah it's fine and thank you for doing this you don't need to though, go meet up with your friends." I said tangling up my earbuds before stuffing them in my front pocket of my jeans.

"Well i'm with one of them now." Tyler said grinning as he held the door open for me as we approached the main reception desk.

I blushed and said thank you for calling me his friend and he replied with "no problem just don't deny our new friendship ever okay?"

I nodded with a huge smile on my face and strolled to the main desk.
