The German Shepard's small head rested on my stomach, its light snores filling the room. Zeus looked so adorable and innocent that I had to retrain myself from giving him a million kisses. I could not help but stare at the cute and innocent relaxed face of the pup, gently running my fingers across the soft fur every now and then, being careful not to wake him.

My phone lighted up from a notification, revealing the time to be 4:38 in the morning. A groan fell from my lips. It had done no good to lay down so early to try and sleep, I could not shut my mind off to do so. On the other hand, Zeus sure did knock out quickly. He must have been exhausted from investigating every inch of his new house and playing all day.

I can not stop thinking about court tomorrow. Well, technically today. In less than five hours, the session will start. Although my dad assured me that I did not have to attend and that he would handle everything, I knew I must be present. This will be the closure I need to move forward with my life and I want to make sure Lorenzo is imprisoned for a long time.

Zeus was lying on me so peacefully that I was hesitant to disturb him up until the point where I could no longer take the painful ache in my bladder. After gently laying the pup's limp body on the vacant side of the bed, I beelined to the bathroom. I immediately released myself and then found a plastic bag from the cabinet below the sink along with thick tape to protect my cast.

I stepped into the shower, relaxing as the hot water ran down my chest. Shampoo lathered in my scalp. The task of washing my hair became so much easier since it was shorter. Had it stayed as long, I don't know how if I could've done it with the cast on. Before the cut I tried to wash the long locks and came to find out that I did not get all the shampoo from my scalp. I could only use one hand, so everyday tasks that was supposed to be easy were difficult.

When I finished showering, I used a can of moose to scrunch my hair. The product pushed up towards my scalp from the ends, tightening the curls and helping them stay in shape. In the organized closet I picked out a t-shirt and sweatpants. I quickly threw them on and then flopped down on the bed, accidentally waking Zeus—I had forgot about the pup, I wasn't used to having company at night. Short legs crawled to me and then a tiny head rested on my thigh, immediately drifting back off into a deep sleep.

I yawned and stretched, peeking at my phone. The time read 6:50 in the morning. A two hours nap is better than no sleep at all. I snapped a picture of Zeus's sleeping form. I swiped the bottom of the screen and clicked through each security camera. There was not a peep outside, not even any deer in sight. It was unusual because they would typically tramp around and graze the grass in the front yard.

Zeus lifted his head and yawned, positioning himself to look at me with tired eyes.

"Well, good morning sunshine. You slept for a long time, didn't you boy?" I said, patting his head.

He stared blankly at me, as if it were none of my business.

I probably need to take him out.

"C'mon sassy pants." I taunted as I got out of the bed, snapping my fingers for him to follow.

Nails scraped against the floor as he scurried through the hallway to catch me.

I went into the pantry, looking for a leash. Zeus followed, hot on my heels.

Bingo.

Right beside the dog food bag laid a leash. I picked it up and headed to the front door, calling Zeus who got distracted by a toy. He ran and then sat obediently on the doormat in front of my feet.
