"I'm just saying. It'll look much more natural if you hung out with girls too. It'll bring less attention to yourself," she explained, confidently walking in a mansion they had just infiltrated.
They were dressed to fit in. The woman looked natural in her guise as a maid, while Yoongi seemed to be satisfied - not pleased at the situation - with a baggy janitor's uniform.
"Right," he replied. In his defense, he tried to hide his sarcasm. If Jessie noticed his tone of voice, she had humoured him and nodded.
For a good three minutes, no one said anything. Yoongi was able to keep himself from showing his discomfort, but all that effort was for nothing. The woman's words caused him to freeze in place.
"I must say, from the reports on you, as a suspect, I was surprised you have managed to blend in the way you have. I would have thought you hated well-off students," she commented. These words were the catalyst. Yoongi swallowed and forced his gaze on the tiled floor. "It's not that simple," he said, almost sounding defeated. He snapped himself out. "I would rather not talk about," he quickly said, speeding his pace up.
"I see." Jessie's eyes narrowed owlishly. "Yes, it goes deeper than just blind hate. You're cautious or maybe... afraid. Both."
Yoongi came to a dead stop and glared at the woman. "I don't want to talk about it," Yoongi insisted through clenched teeth.
She was right. Someone in her position must have seen an abundant amount of cases like his. She knew his type and saw through him. Read him like book. And he absolutely hated that obvious truth.
Not being fazed, nor seeing his irritation, Jessie kept her unwavering composure and smiled. "For the mission you were given, it is important to keep personal feelings aside. And frankly," she made eye contact with Yoongi, "I'm impressed with your work so far."
The compliment was unexpected to Yoongi, but not enough to get a verbal response out of him. Albeit, the anger subsided considerably due to his surprise. "I... I understand."
The plan went smoothly - mostly. They successfully infiltrated the place thanks to one of the agents guiding them via wireless technology Yoongi stuffed in his ear. Yeah, the things wouldn't stay there, so he sort of forced the stupid thing to stay in his ear. Advanced, his foot.
They got inside the office with ease and fortunately, no witnesses either. A miracle, really. Both because Yoongi's social interaction battery was flat and there would be less chance of people becoming suspicious of them. The duo searched the place for suspicious items that would confirm that Jung Hoseok was the killer.
There were none.
"What now?"
"We go search his room."
"Why didn't we go there in the first place. We are investigating Jung Hoseok. Not his parents."
"I don't know." The woman shrugged, "Let's go. We have a time limit."
With that, Jessie and Yoongi cleaned the place of any signs of their intrusion. They made sure everything was in place from top to bottom. Their hands were covered in gloves, but changed into different ones.
They arrived sooner than expected as his room was only four doors ahead. Jessie tugged on her gloves and opened the door. They heard Jung Hoseok does not usually leave his room locked. It was one of the reasons why Hoseok was the first person they investigated out of school boundaries.
Jessie took out her phone and began taking photos. The purpose of her actions were simple: a reference of an untouched room. That way, they could easily see if they had misplaced something.
Yoongi waited idly for her to finish. The clicking sounds eventually stopped, so the brunette assumed his temporary partner was done.
He took a step inside, simultaneously he heard her instruct him: "Take the left. I will take the right."
Yoongi didn't bother to nod or respond. He only done what was expected of him. His eyes landed on the CD's stacked on his drawer. Is that a common thing to see in a guys room? Yoongi did remember having a few of them hidden somewhere. It was mostly guides on how to play piano and a few movies here and there.
His searched with little effort, but he was doubtful he missed anything yet. Just as he looked through Hoseok's cupboard, he questioned the sanity in looking through another guy's stuff. It was especially weird since Yoongi 'befriended' him.
"Jessie," he mumbled. Nonetheless, she hummed, telling him to speak. He was feeling particularly talkative with a side of curiosity, so the words didn't come out too strained. "Why haven't the organization personally spoken to the suspects, instead of being discreet? Wasn't there enough information to investigate legally or what?"
He heard the sounds of the paper she moved around and the three second hum. "We are not a legal organization in the public's eyes. That is the main reason."
Yoongi wasn't too surprised, but had his questions. It was enough for him to momentarily pause his search. "What do you mean?" He closed the drawer and moved on to the last of it.
"We are kept a secret. Specifically, to investigate cases like this. You know this well already, but there will always be a person who gets away with a crime due to their status or wealth. If not that, through connections."
Yoongi nodded without realizing his actions. "Truthfully, I had doubts in the organization. I thought it was pointless to try and find a culprit from a school like that. The only one that would actually be possible to arrest would be Kim Namjoon." He didn't once try to look at Jessie in the eyes. He was afraid he would say more than he should. He said enough for this persistent woman who nagged about his personal life.
"Yes," Jessie said, "Unfortunately, that is how the world works. Have the right amount of power, money, connections or status and you can get away with despicable crimes. There are flaws to law enforcement officials. That is why our organization was formed. We gather the necessary elements to enforce law upon those who think they can escape from it."
As Jessie finished her explanation, she pulled out something interesting that earned a second glance. "Oh, what do we have here."
He hadn't taken his eyes off the drawer he was 'inspecting', but the rustle of a plastic bag was tempting him to look Jessie's way. Giving in, he gingerly looked at the person that made him feel vulnerable.
"What is it?" He asked.
Jessie narrowed her eyes, humming as they scrutinized the dirty-white plastic bag. Finally, she responded:
"Looks like he didn't get rid of all traces of drugs."
