"good morning, honey. happy birthday," ahyeong's mother said as ahyeong approached the kitchen. ahyeong walked over, giving her mother a tight hug, "thank you, mom." ahyeong's mother pulled a cupcake out from behind her, "make a wish, sweetie." ahyeong closed her eyes, inhaled, and blew the candle out.

"your father and i are going to be in the office tonight," her mother started off, "so you can go spend the night at chohee's. i know she'll do something for you." her mother kissed her forehead. ahyeong nodded, "good morning, dad," she smiled. he hummed in reply, his eyes glued to his phone. ahyeong nodded slowly and awkwardly, "well, I'm gonna be late. i'll see you guys tomorrow."
"make sure to face time tonight, alright! i'm not gonna miss your eighteenth even if it's virtually!" mrs. park said, waving her daughter goodbye. ahyeong waved back, getting into chohee's car.
"happy birthday, birthday girl," chohee sang. ahyeong giggled, putting her seatbelt on, "thank you."
"here, open it," chohee said, handing a small box wrapped in tissue paper over, "I couldn't find wrapping paper so i used tissue paper."

💍

jungkook sat in the back of a classroom, staring out the window, his head resting on his palm. he waited. and waited. finally, his dark brown eyes spotted the one girl they were scouting for. park ahyeong. he took his phone out and texted jimin and taehyung in the group chat.

me
get ready, she's here.

jimin and taehyung replied with a thumbs up and a winky face.

💍

"i have to get to the club meeting. i'll see you later. mua," chohee made a kiss sound and was off to her club meeting. the club founder— late for a meeting she set up. that's not good.

"i heard it was your birthday today?" jungkook said, approaching ahyeong. ahyeong cursed under her breath, turning around to face the male who was behind her.
"what is it now, jungkook? are you gonna dunk me in a garbage this time? or are you gonna—" she abruptly stopped talking as she held her breath and closed her eyes. she shook her hands, flinging the excess liquid off her hands. she wiped the liquid from her face, then looked down at her uniform. it was covered in gooey green gunk.

"slime," jungkook smiled. ahyeong could see the flashes from peoples phones, hear the laughter and teasing escaping peoples lips, and the sound of camera shutters. she stared at jungkook, anger rising up inside her, making her cheeks flush a pinkish-red. ahyeong was so angry she almost cried. her fists were balled up tightly. she ran away to the bathroom.

she leaned against the sink, looking at herself in the mirror. her hair was stuck together in clumps due to the slime. her uniform was basically soaked at this point. and the feeling seeping into her shoes and socks was not helping. after the bell rang, she poked her head out of the bathroom, then skipped out to the gyms bathroom.

her only option left was to wear her gym attire to class. she sighed once she got out of the shower. she put on her clothes and walked to class thirty minutes late.

jungkook looked over, snickering at the girl. jimin leaned over, whispering something into taehyung's ear, making him laugh out loud.

"kim taehyung," mr. lee said, his tone a warning like sound. taehyung quieted himself, but continued to laugh in silence. ahyeong walked over to her seat, rolling her eyes.

"ms. park, you are not wearing proper uniform," mr. lee spoke, standing up. the whole class snickered.
"i have nothing else, mr. lee." ahyeong said, standing up and bowing. mr. lee sighed, shaking his head slowly, "alright. this is a warning for you. next time you're going to the office." ahyeong nodded, sitting back down, keeping her head down, but still listening in on the lecture.

💍

    "what a jerk," chohee sneered.
"keep your eyes on the road," ahyeong said, pointing out. chohee looked forward, speeding up a little to pass the yellow light before it turned red.

💍

"hurry and get the things you need," chohee said as ahyeong ran to her door and entered. about three minutes later, she came running out of her house with a bag of her clothes, uniform for the next day, toothbrush, and face wash. chohee was speeding off to her house so they could spend the rest of the evening together.

💍

"another business dinner?" jungkook groaned, pacing around his room.
"yes, jungkook. and you'll be needed to attend this dinner, honey," his mother responded from the other line.
"why can't junghyun go instead?" he whined. mrs. jeon could be heard 'tsk tsk tsk' ing the male. he frowned, "i made plans with—"
"cancel it, honey. your father would not be happy if you missed this dinner. it's very important." his mother informed. her clacking heels could be heard through the phone.
"fine, i'll be there. what time?" jungkook gave in, sighed. his eyes looked miserable while he looked in the mirror.
"seven o'clock at jungsik," his mother replied, "i have to go now, honey. goodnight." before jungkook could respond, the line already went dead. he tossed his phone on his bed and walked into his bathroom.

💍

"how do you face time on this thing?" her mother questioned.
"mom, the video looking thing on your screen," ahyeong frowned, now holding her phone up in front of her. this time, she was sending the video chat to her mother.
"oh! good! i can see you now. happy birthday once again, honey," mrs. park said, sending a flying kiss to her daugter. ahyeong pretended to catch the kiss and place her hand on her cheek.

"happy birthday to you~" chohee came out of the kitchen with a cake. her mother and father was behind her, and her little brother. ahyeong looked at her phone and her mother was singing as well as her father. that made her happy.

"make a wish, birthday girl," chohee said, approaching ahyeong. she blew out the candles and everyone clapped. mrs. kim took the cake back into the kitchen to cut.

"honey, we need to talk to you," mr. park said. ahyeong nodded, leaving to a more quiet area: chohee's room in the basement.
"what is it?" she asked.

"we are having a business dinner tomorrow night and we would like for you to attend," her father said. she nodded slowly, "um, okay. what's the dinner for?" her parents paused at the question, leaving ahyeong answerless.

"are you guys done?" a voice sounded from the back. mr. park nodded and walked away with another man.

"goodnight, honey. sweet dreams," her mother blew one last kiss and hung up. ahyeong tucked her phone in her back pocket and walked back upstairs. chohee handed her a slice of cake and they watched a movie together.

💍

deep down in the pit of their stomachs, ahyeong and jungkook felt as if something was going to change after the dinner. they just didn't know what.
