CHAPTER ELEVEN;
GUESS I'M JUST A PLAYDATE TO YOU;Jisung remembers watching how undeniably cheerful Esme had gotten once she saw the town's park within view. The hold she had on her father's fingers, while guiding him to the built playground that eventually became more of a drag. She was in desperate need to reach the swing sets that many other children used and then left. Kids of all ages whipped past the small family, joyful smiles matching the same one his own daughter had presented. It was cute and made Jisung forget that he was practically being shouted at by a toddler.
"Slow down quokka, or you're gonna fall" He spoke upon seeing her almost trip because of a crack in the concrete sidewalk. Esme groaned from impatience.
"But daddy, if we don't hurry the swings will be gone!" She urged. Jisung rolled his eyes with faux ill-intention, nodding right after with a snicker. He also finally granted her the wish that was picking up speed; so now he was doing a light jog to match with her scurrying legs. A smile stretched upon Esme's face then. There was a gleam in her eye before she was running the rest of the distance. It was meant to be a challenge: see who can get to their destination first. Obviously if Jisung wished to truly win, he could have—go up to the plastic seat and then boast with a proud grin and maybe even give a little dance. With how his daughter did that instead, he let her get there first.
But then she started to breathe heavily, a few broken coughs coming out.
"You alright baby?" Jisung was immediately squatting and bringing her flushed red face within his hands. "Ah, let's not run anymore. I don't want you to have another attack" He then reached within her baby bag and pulled out her sippy-cup that had been filled to the top with water (even if she begged for it to be apple juice). "Here, take a sip" The little girl didn't hesitate to take hold of the cup and drink. She honestly hated having weaker lungs than the average person. She wasn't allowed to have too much fun. "Better?"
Esme nodded when dropping the sippy-cup back in the bag.
"Swings now, daddy! Come on!"
It was as if nothing happened. Esme was back to her typical self, bouncing on her toes while patting at a seat that was unoccupied by any other children. It made the single father shake his head from mirth. Either way he agreed, lifting her small body and placing it down on the plastic light blue seat. She wobbled a bit, but with the help of the rusty metal chains, and her father being right behind her, she eventually found her balance and awaited a push. And the second she felt herself begin to move back and forth, a smile broke out on her face and she was laughing.
"Higher daddy! Higher!" She giggled between her words, tiny feet kicking in the air with glee.
"Any higher and you'll fall off."
"I'm a big girl. No booboo can hurt me now" She explained confidently. Or that was until she was screaming in fear once she looked down. It was expected. She was still extremely young and most if not all children have that normal fear that was heights. So she gripped the metal chains a little harder, little body tensing as she tried to remember that she was supposed to be having fun right now. It didn't work. "Nevermind daddy! I want to get down now."
