After a few days, I got used to the sea life. Zoro had told the others about my ability, and I shifted for them, but they didn't judge me, although they thought my power was amazing.
*TIME SKIP 5 YEARS*
I turn 12 tomorrow... I sang in my head. I began to hum Happy Birthday. "Hey, who's birthday is it?" Nami joked as she heard my tune. "Mine!" The others stared at me. "Well, it is tomorrow, but still!"
"We have to celebrate it!" Luffy yelled, and the others agreed. "Uhh, nah, I'm good. Something bad always happens on my birthday, so I don't care anymore."
"What do you mean?" Usopp asked. "When I turned 5, I was, uh....beaten...by my father. 6, I was...it's too hard to talk about. 11, last year, I was almost killed by one of my mom's drunken rages. So, yeah, I don't really wanna celebrate it." The others stared at me, horrified. "That's just horrible!" Nami screamed, reaching to suddenly hug me. I flinched, and everything seemed to freeze. "I...I was just going to hug you..." She said, pouting. "I...I'm sorry!" I ran to my bed, crying. "Wait!"
"Luffy, let her be for a minute. Let her calm down." Zoro advised, and so they left me alone.
*NEXT DAY*
*BIRTHDAY TODAY!!!*
Around dinner, we stopped at another island, but I didn't budge from my bed. "Hey, we'll be back, okay? Don't run off, now." Nami said.
"Got it." I mumbled, facing the wall. Nami sighed, shutting the door.
An hour later and they still aren't here!, I thought. Suddenly, footsteps echoed in the deck. I smiled widely. They're back!
I raced to meet them, throwing open the door—but I screamed instead. It was the Marines!
"There she is! Get her!"
A Marine grabbed me, placing a glowing set of cuffs on me. When I tried to shapeshift, white-hot pain flared all over. I screamed, turning human again. I...I can't shapeshift! I screamed in my head. "Let's go." The Marine captain said. "ZORO!" I screamed, and they all saw me. "HEY!" Zoro yelled, but Marines cut them off. I was thrown into a cell. "Sir! The blockade of Marines are dead."
"Then forget them. Hurry up, go!" I felt the ship move. I peeked out of a window. The Straw Hats were running, but then they stopped. They were out of land to run on. Zoro collapsed, and Nami began to cry. I pounded on the window, screaming, but it was obvious they couldn't hear me.
.....*AT MARINE BASE*.....
"LET ME GO, YOU FREAKS!" I screamed as they threw me in a cell. A strange man walked up to the now-closed cell door, peeking through the bars. He had black eyes, long, swirly red, dreaded hair, and he had blue gloves on. His feet were cloven hooves.
"Tell me where your precious friend Zoro is, and I'll let you go." He smiled coldly. "I don't know!"
"Oh, but I know you do! If you won't willingly tell, I'll torture it out of you!" He snarled. "DO IT! I WON'T BETRAY MY FAMILY!"
"You think they're your FAMILY?" He laughed. "Oh, how mistaken you are! They're just a bunch of pirates! They don't care about anything but themselves and treasure!"
"You're wrong! These pirates care for me like their own!" I yelled. The man nodded. "Very well. My name is Hollis, remember that!" He strode away sharply.
*TWO DAYS LATER*
He's tortured me for the past two days. He cuts me, slashes me, and even beats me several times a day. The first time it happened, I had a full-blown panic attack with flashbacks. He tortured me through them, but, oddly, I'm used to this now. I gulped as the cell door slammed open. A guard grunted, "Let's go." I weakly followed him. I wasn't going fast enough, though, so he dragged me. He threw me in the Chamber, the place Hollis tortured me. Hollis's assistant buckled me in the chair. "All done, sir!"
Hollis came in. "Good." He smirked.
And so it was. "Tell me!" He shrieked. "N-no!" I spluttered through my mouthful of blood. He yelled in anger, stabbing my thigh. My screams echoed off the walls.
*ZORO POV*
We found it! Marine Base 23! "She's definitely here!" Luffy said. I guess he felt her...aura, or whatever. We hopped off the ship, sneaking up to the door. Nami took out the guards with a sneak attack, and we snuck in. We roamed several hallways until we heard it; an ear-splitting scream. LUNA! I thought frantically. Luffy and Sanji held me back as I began to race forwards. "Let me go!" I hissed. "No; we need a plan, Zoro! We can't bust in there!" Nami scolded. "Why not? She's probably dying!"
"Please, Zoro!" I huffed. "Fine!" We snuck up to the door of a Chamber, and Nami peered inside. A second later, her face turned a deadly shade of green and she ran to a trashcan, puking. Usopp looked in after that. "Oh, God, it's really bad..."
"Move." I shoved Usopp away, looking in. My heart dropped.
Luna, the pretty little girl who'd recently turned 12, was a bloody mess. I gripped the wall to keep from collasping. Red clouded my vision. How DARE he hurt her! I screamed. Unaware of my own actions, I raised my foot. "ZORO, NO!" Nami screamed. My head cleared, but I'd already kicked the metal door down. The man with the blue gloves, cloven hooves, and white exam gloves on stood up sharply, staring at me. I was breathing as if I was dying for air.
*BACK TO LUNA POV*
I heard the door get kicked down. I couldn't move. My left eye, the one facing the now-broken door, was swollen shut completely. I coughed, blood flew out, splattering the floor. Someone swore.
A fight ensued, and someone touched me. I screamed, flailing. "HEY, IT'S ME! Luna, it's me!" Usopp's voice yelled. "P-please, get me out!"
"I will, hold on, okay?" I had just enough strength to nod. "Good, stay with me." I nodded again, then, energy gone, slumped. He finished untying me and Nami screamed, "GET HER OUT!" Usopp ran, carrying me gently, trying not to jostle me. He boarded the ship, laying me in a cot. "Z-Zoro..." I sobbed. "H-he's coming, Luna, don't worry, okay? I'm going to get him—"
"No, don't leave me, please!"
With my good eye, I could see Usopp was torn. Stay or leave? "Usopp." He looked at me. "P-please get Zoro..."
"Sure!" He gently kissed my forehead, then ran to get the swordsman. After a while, I heard something cracking. Then the building exploded. I shot up, screaming. "NOO!" I ran, very wobbly-like, off the ship, collapsing on the beach's sand. Tears leaked out, but I couldn't feel it in my left eye. I collapsed even lower, sobbing. "Z-Zoro...Nami, and Luffy, Usopp and—" I broke down. "M-my family..."
"Is here for you."
I gasped, whirling around. My family smiled at me, and Zoro was closest, so I launched myself at him in a hug. A bit shocked, it took him a moment to hug back, but he did, and he hugged me tightly. My tears wet his shirt. He put me on his back piggyback style, an we boarded the ship, leaving this island behind.
