You were the ground
A long time ago
Before you broke my heart
Before you led me on
Before you eventually came out as gay
You were my ground
Back when I had no self esteem
When you took what little I had left
I have been trying to write this poem
Even before you weren't my ground
I wrote and wrote
Trying to find the perfect fit
Of words and phrases that encompassed what I thought was my world
You
Now
You are my space
Infinite and cold
Distant
I haven't talked to you in months
Probably for the better
Just in case I fall in love with a girl I can never have
And rely on the ground I never truly had yet again
