For the Murder of Evil

The Murderer

We all turned to face Desire. "You?!" Zae asked, his eyes wide open.

Desire smiled. "Yes."

Zae and Xan looked at each other, surprised.

I'm going mad. I'm absolutely going crazy! I've never seen Daichi act this way before.

Desire smiled. "You were right, Morpheus. My wings could get to places fast enough." Even Morpheus was confused.

Desire smiled again and truned to all of us. "I indeed did it. I killed each of you either because you were powerful, or you were about to figure it out. But I was doing it for fun, so please don't kill me. I was going to give back your magic after I had killed all of you, so please don't kill me. I'll even send you back to your hometown."

We had no choice except to look at each other and nod.

Everyone was going away. Some were already home, I guessed. Melody left first. I hugged her, a little sad that I'll never see her again. But oh well.

I found Zae. "Zae! You aren't evil. Just be brave, and you'll never be evil again!"

Zae smiled. "Thanks, Reiji!" He paused for a second, then smiled. "Say, the Rook told me something very interesting on how to not feel guilty about lying. Haven't you met Elsa and Vlad?"

I scrunched up my eyebrows. Who? They sound foreign.

Zae widened his eyes. "Oops! Never mind!"

I shrugged my shoulders. We shook hands, and eyes wandered to his hand.

And then I realized something. Daichi was right; it was impossible.

I removed my hand from Zae's and ran. "Where are you going?" He yelled at me.

"Desire can't be the murderer!" I yelled back.

I found Desire a little later. "You can't be the murderer," I said through gasps, panting for breath.

Desire smiled. "What are you talking about?"

"It's true that you were the only one who went by themselves and could've killed Melody, but you didn't have the bracelet on you. Remember, we checked!"

Desire tsked. "I hid it with makeup. I found some upstairs."

"But what about the whole magic spell? Sensory Link makes the other person feel pain, and you didn't look like you were having pain. Plus, Zae told us that the number of Rook equals how far you are from death, and you had the same number of Rook as Xan, who was dead."

Desire's eye twitched. "Oh dear, I didn't expect this. No one except Naïve has ever seen through my lies before... If you'll excuse me, I'm hiding."

He closed his eyes, and I watched with fascination as he turned into a boy with brown hair, freckles,  and green eyes.

The boy grinned. "Hi! I'm Ricardo, Desire's main personality."

He gave me his hand and I shook it. "You look nothing like him."

Ricardo shrugged. "Magic. Anyways, you're right. Even though Desire lies a lot, he hates killing people, even as a joke, unless it protects people close to him. But he has stopped killing after we met Naïve, a girl Desire likes because she's an air mind too."

I nodded, understanding. "Is she the girl Desire was talking about earlier?"

Ricardo nodded. "He's so untrustworthy at times. If we leave him alone with her, who knows what he'll do." He grinned. "But tell me! Who do you think the murderer is? Desire only pretended too be the murderer so that he could take his revenge on the murderer."

I held up a finger. Daichi?

Yes, since you proved that I was right, I'll tell you. Ask him if there are any people in his world without magic.

I gulped. "Are there any people in your world without magic?"

Ricardo nodded. "We call them Zeros."

This person was so jealous not having a magic talent that he would do anything to get magic, even steal it from the most powerful people of other worlds. And I have to say, he's clever.

My eyes widened. There was only one person who didn't say anything about having magic or not when he introduced himself. We also didn't check his wrists. And Morpheus must've felt him move earlier, which was why he was suspicious earlier. The murderer saw that, and killed him. And that is -

"Congratulations, you caught me. I'm glad I killed myself before Melody, else I'd have to reveal myself. Oh, and hello Ricardo, I didn't expect Desire to let you take over."

I turned around to see the murderer. He smiled, and Dr Vile rolled up his sleeve to reveal a fading pink bracelet.

And a bright light flashed in front of my eyes. When it was gone, I found myself back in my home.
