Yuta let out a soft sigh, gazing at the unconscious woman. It had been a few days since it had happened. Since Melanie escaped. Since Maya Wan had died. Since the last physical piece of Melanie's haunting childhood had finally disappeared.
It was a lot. Melanie had awoken after being brought into the clinic, but it was too much for her too handle. She had fallen unconscious minutes afterwards, and had yet to wake. The usual silence in the clinic was disturbed by the soft beeping of the heart monitor. Her soft breathing lined up with the slow dripping of her IV drip.
As he re-wrapped a bandage over some newly applied bruise cream, he thought about the first time he met Melanie. Sadly ironic, this was so similar. Yes, he was a deadly mafia member, but he constantly reminded himself of his routes. He hated seeing his brothers injured, but it was something that happened.
Running his hands through hislong hair, he cleaned up a nasty cut on Melanie's shoulder before wrapping it in bandages. He absentmindedly looked across her state. This was so much different from the Melanie seemingly everyone else saw. Melanie Li was confident and didn't take any prisoners. She did what she wanted, took what she wanted, and played with people's lives like they were chess. But lying in front of him, with fading blonde hair and covered in bandages, was Lee Moonbyul. A girl terrified of the world and trusting of so few.
"If only I had known you sooner." Yuta muttered, sparing one last glance to the Red Serpent tattoo on her hip.
He turned back to work on some new drug mixes, he hummed a familiar tune. About an hour into his work, a soft knock broke his concentration. He turned around to see Moon's brunette head peaking through the door.
"Can we talk?" Moon asked.
Yuta nodded, bottling and sealing everything. After pulling off his gloves and goggles, he turned and plopped himself on a spinning chair, too which Moon did as well.
"Is there anything up?" Yuta asked, confused why the reclusive hacker girl came to see him.
"I have to leave for a little bit. When Melanie wakes up, please be there for her." Moon said, looking over at her half-sister.
"Where are you going?" Yuta asked.
"Got word that my mom died. I have to attend her funeral in the Ukraine and gather anything I want. She didn't have any other living family so everything is being left to me. Her boyfriend isn't too happy about that." Moon said, annoyed at the texts the guy had sent to her.
"Okay. Be safe, are you taking anyone with you?" Yuta asked. "For safety reasons that is."
"Joy offered to accompany me." Moon said, avoiding the faint brush on her cheeks.
Yuta chuckled slightly. While he was one of a few medics in NCT, he had civilian training the therapy, so he acted as NCT's therapist. With the absolute chaos going on right now, many had come to talk to him, including Moon.
"You told me she was interest in your hometown right?" Yuta said. "Taking her out then while you're there. We all deserve some form of happiness in our lives right now."
Moon blushed heavily before laughing and fake kicking Yuta.
"Take care of Mel for me." Moon said, going to stand up. "And not just because you're a medic."
Yuta looked up at Moon slightly confused. Moon shook her head, going to leave the room. She stopped just at the door, turning around and looking straight into Yuta's eyes.
"You'll get it eventually. Just promise me that you'll always be there for her, and you'll never desert her." Moon said.
Yuta was confused but her firmly spoke, "I promise."
