When it came time to say goodbye to Rivendell the dwarves were delighted. The only ones who actually wished they could stay just a bit longer were Mara and Bilbo. Mara had found company she enjoyed being around there in a few elf maidens and they even let her keep some scented lavender oil and clothes for her journey to which she was grateful.

The sun had long begun to set as the company traveled a long, narrow path against the side of a mountain. Mara stuck close to Bilbo's side which, unbeknownst to her, made Thorin a little angry catching the attention of a few of the older dwarves.

It was only when the mountains came alive and started beating each other causing Bilbo to almost fall to his death that he made it clear he was angry.

Bilbo's foot had slipped on a wet piece of rock and he was thrown forwards when Mara grabbed him by his bag and Dwalin gripped his arm, yanking him back, and holding him tight against the mountain wall.

Mara had enough time to ask if Bilbo was ok and receive a nod in response, when Dwalin yelled out "mountain!" and a large boulder went souring through the air to the mountain in front of them.

"What in the Divines..." Mara whispered before they were bombarded by a landslide and everyone was trying not to get hit. Mara looked upwards and threw her hand in the air trying to throw up a ward to protect the dwarves surrounding her, but the rocks were too much for it as one hit her hand causing her to retract in pain and try to hold back tears of pain.

"This is no thunderstorm," Balin cried out as the entire mountain in front of them started moving and pulled up a gigantic piece of rock. "it's a thunder battle! Move!"

"The legends are true! Giants! Storm giants!" One of the Company called out, which one Mara did not know, but all she retained was Thorin shouting back to them all to cover themselves.

Mara whipped her head around to see where the boulder the one giant in front of them threw landed. She yelped in surprise when she saw the other giant get smacked in the face with the boulder and fall against their mountain, they had been able to escape to only to find themselves on another mountain giant who decided to join the fight.

The tossing and jostling seemed like it was going to last forever until Mara saw something that caused her to try and think of something to save everyone, falling short. A part of a giant was coming straight at her, Bilbo, and the dwarves with them. Mara shouted at everyone to get close before turning and instinctively shouting words she didn't know she knew "Fus Ro DAH!"

The giant's body part was slung away from them enough to where he lost his balance and fell down the ravine. The storm covered the noise of the shout to where the other dwarves thought it was thunder, but the ones who were with her and Bilbo were shook. What did they just witness? They should have been dead but they weren't!

Thorin and the others ran to where Mara and the other dwarves where thankful to see that their brethren and family were not dead. Mara had never seen such a look in Thorin eyes, but she knew it was not for her nor Bilbo. She stood up and looked around panic slowly growing in her eyes. "Bilbo? BILBO!" She cried out causing the others to start looking around and calling his name frantically too.

Finally, someone spotted him hanging off the side of the cliff trying as hard as he could to climb back up, but when Mara saw his hands slip and his body start falling, she panicked. "Bilbo!" She cried, her voice echoing through the mountain pass.

Ori threw himself forward and grabbed Bilbo's hand, many others gathering around trying to offer Bilbo a hand to pull him up none long enough to reach him. Mara watched at Thorin scaled down to Bilbo's level and pushed him up to the others to get him to safety, a wash of relief hitting Mara at his safety.

The Bosmer didn't even notice when Thorin had fell and Dwalin had to help him up. All she was focused on was the feelings of her one and only true friend in this foreign world. Bilbo, Bilbo, look at me," she placed her hands on his cheeks and turned his head towards her and smiled, "you're ok. You're safe."

Bilbo smiled back still trying to catch his breath.

Dwalin commented as Thorin stood up, "I thought we lost our Burglar"

"He's been lost ever since he left home," Thorin said shooting daggers at Mara and Bilbo. "He should never have come. He has no place among us."

Mara turned to him and scoffed. "He has no place among you? Really? He has more place among you than I do!" She said standing up and taking dangerous steps towards Thorin to the dismay of Bilbo.

"You are right," Thorin said despite his heart screaming at him to shut up. "You do have no place among us. You were so unwanted by your own people that you ended up somewhere you barely even know. Go back to the filth from whence you came." Thorin spat at her before turning and leaving an exasperated and angry Mara. Tears filled her eyes as she turned her head to avoid anyone from seeing.

That night was strained she laid in between Bofur and Bomber that night trying to ignore the looks of curiosity and pity she was receiving. Why was she staying with this asshole of a King? If this was how he treated his Company then how would he treat his people? Hot tears fell down her cheeks as another thought crossed her mind. What did she do with the Giants? How did she know those words?

She sat up slowly, sure that everyone except Kili who was on watch duty for the Orcs, was fast asleep by now. She pulled her knees to her chest and sighed, "I should just leave." She whispered, gathering her stuff as quiet as possible. She was almost complete when a rumbling started and the floor collapsed under her feet, dropping her at least a hundred feet down a long tunnel with the rest of the dwarves. All of them falling into a spiked cage-like area where a bunch of ugly creatures ran to them and started separating them one by one.
