I slip the disk into my computer tower. I should be able to play this until She gets home and starts throwing thinks around again. With that in mind I shove the helmet on my head and lay down in my bed.
---- 3rd person POV ----
When the woman came home and saw the house a mess-completely ransacked- she stormed into her daughters room screaming insults and profanities.
Her screams of rage turn to terror as she looked on a gory scene. The girl was laying in the bed as if she were asleep. It would have been so if there was not the knife in her heart.
The neighbors truly fearing for the girl and called the police. much to their dismay they found an hour later of her passing. The mother however wasn't convicted, the prints of the doer were on the knife still as well as on the skin of the girl. However she was locked up for child-abuse.
A detective found the girl, her avatar really still in action on the computer screen and thought to investigate.
He found the horrible truth.
She was dead but she didn't know that, all she thought was that the game was having some minor bugs.
He hoped to login and find her, this girl who turns 18 tomorrow, who had no friends and by the mother no family.
---- Sayrn's POV ----
Why can't I log back out?
"What's wrong?" A player asks, that would be Hun from the party I joined to learn the ropes.
"I can't find the logout." I say.
"Here, let me see your screen." he says and I flick my screen to him. he scrolls through it and frowns.
"I don't see it Hun, she's right may be her avatar is having a few hiccups?" Junpie says flicking te screen back. I close it and hope that's it.
"Ooh! Another newbie!" Jay cries pointing to the re-spawn pad. It was a man who looked like he could be a cop.
"Which one of you is Sayrn?" He asks looking to us, I hesitantly step forward and wave.
"I'm Sayrn."
"Umm we need to speak." He says fidgeting slightly in the newbie drab.
"Says who?" I demand raising my chin.
"Your murder investigator." he says and I stiffen.
"I didn't kill anyone. Whose dead?" I ask curious.
"You." He says with the same seriousness.
"To hell with you." I yell and start walking off.
"You can't log out can you." he calls and I realize he wasn't prying, he knew.
"What of it? My avatar is just having a few hiccups." I say angrily.
"Can you up load pictures from say a flash drive currently plugged into your computer?" He asks the group around me.
"Yeah, why?"
"I'm sending your file to you." he tells me then my email pops up with a case file. Hesitantly I open it and the people who were looking over my shoulder stagger off.
It was me, clearly me in those pictures, the number markers standing out like an episode on NCIS.
"I'm not lying to you, your body was found in your room, which was completely trashed along with the rest of the house. your mother went to jail for child abuse." he says and my world seems to collapse on top of me.
"Why? What did I do to deserve this?" I wail the party all leave quietly so not to disturb my grief.
Then a much more important question drops on top of me like a ton of bricks.
"How am I still here- if I'm dead?"
"I don't know." he says sullenly.
"Who are you anyway?" I ask my stranger danger instinct popping out.
"I am Detective Nicholas Drynum, you can call me Nick." he says and fiddles around on his board. A friend request pops up from a player EdYnum.
"If you ever have any questions just message me. just know we have your murderer booked so I'm free to chat whenever."
"Don't you have other cases?" I ask looking him over.
"I only get called in for special cases like you."
"Kids who were murdered in the middle of playing a video game?"
"Pretty much." he says with a shrug.
"I'm glad I asked for the avatar that is identical to my old body, now at least I don't have to worry about getting stuck with a retarded body for the rest of forever." I say bitterly.
"You could change your avatar to look different from your original self?" He asks incredibly. I snort trying not to laugh but soon give up and laugh outright.
"Y-yes you could h-have I gasp out between fits of laughter.
"Rude."
"Not that is genuinely hilarious."
"Aren't you still freaked out about being dead?" His blunt way of stating my current situation has me sobered up and studying him.
"No, no sense to it now is there I'm already dead." I say. "are you sure you didn't make any type of change to your avatar?"
"No I didn't think that was an option."
I take in his tanned skin that was bronze in hue, his stark black hair that looked so freaking soft to touch, a beyond fit body that the training clothes of loose over garments and armor spandex-like under garments suited him well, showing off every muscle. His eyes were intensely hazel, like dark green and flecks of black gold and brown.
"Don't worry about me, if you want to talk to me you know where I'll be, also no ones gonna want to party with a dead girl so please keep it a secret." I say.
"Alright, when I have free time I'll come play."
"I'm not going to wait to level up and equip and party raid and quest with you, you have a life, I don't." I warn, he nods.
"Do me a favor." he says his log out screen setting his strong gently paned face a-glow.
"What?"
"Get more reasonable clothes." he says seriously looking me over.
"I'm a video game character now, forever. Get over yourself." I scoff and transport to the nearest village.
I sit at a bench and let my head drop to my hands as the first tears for my body and old life fall from my eyes.
"I'm dead." I say to myself hoping it will some how ground me. "I wonder if my status still shows me as a 'player'" I wonder with curiosity.
"Hey." a familiar voice says. (Just a btw moment here: your voice and looks don't change in these types of games unless you manually change them which takes forever to do.)
I look up at the familiar stranger and bear burst into tears.
"Jona." I say after steadying myself with a shaky breath.
"You look like crap." he says seriously.
"I'm dead, of course I'm going to look like crap." I tell him and he laughs.
"Nice one."
"It's not a joke and I need a shoulder to cry on." I say tears filling back up ready to spill over at any second.
"You're so pulling my leg." he says and I show him the file Nick gave me.
"Oh my god." he says his face paling. "Tell me this is a prank, there's no way you'd have this if you're dead."
"My Detective left a little while ago and I came here." I say the tears still falling.
"How are you still here?" He demands.
"I have no fucking clue." I say bitterly. He hugs me to his chest then and I sob.
"This is probably the worst day of my life." he says.
"Sorry to break it to you but I'm dead I believe I have the right to say that." I say wiping my tears dry and sitting up.
"I told my detective to keep quiet about me so so far you're the only outsider to the case that knows." I tell him.
"Don't worry I won't stab your back, we've been friends since nap time mats I believe I can spare you the worry of me telling everyone you're dead." he says. I smile appreciatively and his timer dings.
"Time for me to go, it's dinner time." he says and pulls up his log out board. "Give me three days and I'll be back, this game is sort of like Gun Gale Online, so I'll be able to party with you for as long as I want and even get paid for it." he says ruffling my hair as get gets up.
"Graduate high school with a happy heart, cause you're doing it for me too." I tell him and he salutes.
"Hey do me a favor." He says suddenly.
"What?"
"Change into something less... You know..." He says trying for words to describe my trainee outfit.
"Slutish?" I say with a laugh.
"Not that! It looks good and all but I'm afraid you're going to get jumped." He mumble the last part but I catch if clearly and near sputter in disbelief.
"I'm not even remotely pretty enough to consider jumping." I scoff and wave pressing his logout button of him.
