TIAW, TAHW!? (WAIT, WHAT?!)
Mom hesitated to come back in the room.
"Cindy, you can't let Charitie see you cry! Calm down. I promise that she is going to be ok. Are you ready to see Charitie?" Dad said
"I don't know. How could my little girl have heart problems? Is it genetic? I know my father had a heart attack when he was really young, but I never knew that it skipped a generation. Will Faith and Hope get it too? Will you get it? Will I get it? What about Seron! She can't get sick! She is way too young! I can't do this? How are we going to tell Charitie that she has blockage in her heart? What are we going to do? What is going to happen to my little girl?" Mom said panicking
After Mom and Dad came into the room, Calin showed up.
"Hope, go home with your mother. Get her some warm tea, help her relax. Faith and I will spend the night here and I will call Sara, Savanna, and Calin's mothers and ask if they are ok with them spending the night here as well. Everybody ok with that? Then, we will switch off spending the night with Chairite." Dad said.
In a terrible situation, my dad always manages to stay calm.
"Hello, Kathryn? This is Jeff, Charitie's father. Yes. Is it ok if Sara spends the night with Charitie in the hospital? I know Charitie would like her to stay. Yes. Alright. See you soon. Have a good night. Yes. We will keep in touch with more details. Yes. Alright. Goodbye." Dad said, calling Mrs. Williamson
"Hello Jon? This is Jeff, Charitie's father. Is it alright if Calin stays here at the hospital with Charitie. I know Charitie wants him to stay. Yes we will keep you updated. Have a good night. Goodbye." He called Calin's father
"Hi Susan? This is Jeff, Charitie's dad. As you know, Chairite collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. We were wondering if Savanna could spend the night here with Charitie, since Charitie really needs her best friends at her side. Yes. I will keep you posted. See you later. Bye." Dad made one last phone call to Savanna's mom
"Sara, your mom said you can stay but she is picking you up at 10:00 tomorrow to get ready for church. Calin and Savanna's parents said they could stay overnight, but Mrs. Johansen will be back around 8:00 tomorrow morning and will give you guys a ride home. I am so hungry. What do you guys want to eat?" Dad said
"I am really craving some fast food." Sara said
"Cravings are just what your body is telling you that you need. Since fast food is generally salty, your body is saying that you need some salt and since sodium chloride is in salt, your body needs more sodium chloride." Calin said with his famous 'Did you know' voice
"Ugh. Well, Calin, what do YOU want?" Sara said
That was a pretty good laugh. We spent almost an hour debating about fast food.
"Ok, but seriously, I am so hungry. Sav, what do you want to eat?" Sara said
"How about In-N-Out." Savanna said
"Oh my gosh. I could totally go for some In-N-Out right now." Sara said
"I will do an Uber Eats so that nobody has to leave. Hello. My name is Jeff Johansen. We would like to get some In-N-Out from Uber Eats. Yes. Alright. 3 Double stacks plain, 2 orders of fries Animal Style, a salad, a medium plain fry, and Oh... I don't know.... Another order of fries animal style. That is all. Ok. Yes. Deliver to Northwest Hospital. The name for the order? Jeff. Jeff Johansen. Ok. thanks." Dad said ordering the food
After we got our food, we fell asleep since it was almost 11:00 at night. Sara and Savanna slept on the couch, and Calin fell asleep in an armchair. My dad fell asleep on a folding chair.
When I woke up, I couldn't breathe. Apparently my face turned blue because my heart wasn't getting enough oxygen to my lungs, and I blacked out again. When I woke up the second time, I had a breathing tube in my nose. Mom and Dad kept going into the hallway to have conversations.
"Honey. What do we do? Our daughter is dying!" Mom cried
"We will talk to the doctors. I don't know what to do. I am trying to stay calm, but how can I when we have a daughter on life support?" Dad replied
" What is happening?" Mom said
"Excuse me, Mr. and Mrs. Johansen, we have some bad news. We have to do another surgery, but Charitie only has a couple days left to live. Do you wish to save her from suffering, or to do the surgery and wait for the results?" The doctor said, interrupting Mom
"Please will you give us some time to think it over?" My Dad said
"Of course. Anything you need." The doctor said, with a weird smile
"Ok... Excuse us for a moment. What are we going to do? Serenity, our daughter is having her last days, and the doctors are wanting to just end her life. Don't they know what they are taking?" My dad said, using my mom's full name
"JEFF! Why do you just assume that I have all the answers!" Mom started to yell, then cry
"Siren, we have to figure this out. We HAVE to. Should we talk to Principal Howards and get the entire 8th grade class to visit her?" My dad said, but this time using my mom's nickname, Seren, which is how baby Sheron got named.
"Ugh. Here come the tears." Mom said
Dad wrapped her in his arms, and said,
"Everything is going to be ok. We're gonna be fine."
