Louise's POV

I rush around the apartment packing my bag for the weekend. I peer in my roommate's bedroom door and see her empty bed, I smile knowing I can make as much noise as I want while getting ready to hit the road. I eat breakfast, brush my teeth and brush my long dark hair and place a pink headband on and quickly apply simple makeup. I hear my phone buzz from my room and run over to pick it up. "Hi, sweetie! Are you on the road yet?" My mom squeals. "No, not yet mom" I reply. "You better get on the road soon miss missy!" She scolds. "I'm heading out the door now. I'll see you in a few hours. Love you! Bye!" I quickly reply and hang up. I put on a black t-shirt with the design of Kuchi Kopi on the right corner, blue jeans shorts, and black converse. Gathering my small suitcase, backpack, and purse and I rush to my car.

It's the Thursday before spring break. I don't have classes Friday so I'm skipping one class today to head back home and spend spring break with my family. I haven't seen them since last August, I was too busy to visit during Thanksgiving. Then Christmas rolled around and the winter storm made it impossible to make the 3-hour drive home. I've been terribly homesick for a while and I'm so excited. Tomorrow is actually my birthday, that's why I'm heading there today, my family is throwing me a party tomorrow.

I start my car and wait for a few minutes thinking of all my school assignments hoping I won't have to worry about them this next week. I head out of the parking lot of my apartment complex passing by my university campus and get onto the highway. I'm in my final year of college and living in my own apartment. My absentee roommate is actually Tammy, this is actually her 7th year of university, she was living at a sorority house for the first four years but then got kicked out because she wasn't a good influence on the younger girls. For my sophomore year, I was allowed to live off-campus and was in search of a roommate when Tina told me Tammy was also in need of one. We found a two bedroom apartment we could split rent on but when I told her the rent price she said of "Just let my dad know he'll send you however much you need" so now Tammy was actually paying the entirety of the rent.

I know that I'm pretty shitty for letting her pay for all of it but can you blame me, I'm a broke college student. My financial aid barely covers my classes and a degree in Forensic Science is not cheap. Tammy's parents have been funding her ever-changing major and wasting money on useless credits and failed classes. They could afford it, which is what I told myself to feel better. After about two hours of driving and only 45 minutes to go, I stop for gas. I notice a liquor store next door and decide to get my mom a bottle of wine. As I'm checking out the man behind the counter asks for my ID and I oblige. He types my birthday into the computer and smiles "Happy early 22nd birthday kid" and I thank him, paying for the wine and getting back out onto the road.

I park outside the restaurant and run in hugging my mom and dad. I've been so busy with school I haven't even talked to them on the phone in weeks. "Louise sweetheart! We've missed you so much" my mom gushes and my dad agrees "Yeah it's been hard running the restaurant without you kids". "I missed you guys two. Are Tina and Gene here?" I question. "Tina's flight got delayed she will be here later tonight and Gene was still stuck at work" my mom answers. I smile, Tina was flying in from New York, she had begun publishing short stories online in high school and has written two novels that are now New York Times Bestsellers. Gene was actually running the local theatre as the director who also stars in some of the shows. He's putting on a musical this Sunday.
