Here he was again. His arm kept tugging on his black jacket. He must not enjoy Karasuno's uniform. He was tall, around my height if not a little taller.
"Um, hey," His voice was probably higher than even Hinata's, which made me want to laugh. "I forgot which way the gym for volleyball is." I want to scoff. He may be tall but he looks like he knows nothing about the sport. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know much at all.
As he kept rambling on, Tsukishima and Yamaguchi walked by, staring at me. "Does Kageyama finally have a girlfriend?" Tsukishima teased, Yamaguchi looking at the boy next to me who shut up.
"I think that's a boy," Yamaguchi quietly said before the two headed off. The boy next to me, I think he's named Y/n, looked relieved after Yamaguchi's comment. How often do people think he's a girl?
"Sorry for bothering you." He spoke out before turning away. I looked at him. His eyes were a shiny e/c, his skin a fragile s/c. He looked delicate. So delicate that I felt like looking at him too hard with my judging eyes would cause him to shatter.
"Hey," He turned to face me slowly. "I'm in the volleyball club so I'll walk you there." I could hear the light taps of his feet behind me. He did have longer hair than even Asahi. It was h/c, and he wore it down. A few strands tucked behind his ears to keep them from getting in his face.
I could see why people thought he was a girl.
His face was soft. With a sharp jawline, but soft features similar to Kiyoko. His hair was kinda messy, but exceptionally pretty. His lips were soft like Kiyoko's.
We're at the gym, which I'm so thankful for. I've been too distracted. Almost everyone is here already, except a few second years. Kiyoko was standing beside Coach Ukai and Mr. Takeda. She waved towards me, so I waved back. She left her spot beside them to walk over to me.
"Hey," Kiyoko greeted softly. I was going to say "hey" back, but she turned to face Y/n, who I forgot was here for a moment. I walk to join Hinata and the rest.
"Hey."
"Are you going to join the club?"
"I think so,"
"Great." She smiles at him, making me a tad jealous. He walks in and gets everyone's attention?
We get on the floor in front of the board, Coach Ukai is going to talk to us about the upcoming practice game with Nekoma. I sit between Hinata and Tanaka. The third years spreading across the back of us and Y/n standing next to Kiyoko. Nishinoya and Tanaka were glaring at Y/n, making the boy slouch a bit like it'll make him disappear.
When you're that tall it's almost impossible to disappear.
* * *
Everyone's eyes were on you. Every first year. Every second year. Every third year. Everyone in the gym were looking at you. Everyone saw you as something new. Everyone was waiting for what you'd be doing next. Everyone was waiting for you to do anything.
"Have you brought us another member Kiyoko?" The man you've noticed to run the Sakanoshita shop a few miles from your house asked.
"No, he came on his own. I just walked him to homeroom earlier." She sounded so composed. No wonder she had almost the entire school fawning over her.
"I'm Coach Ukai and this is Mr. Takeda," He pointed to the teacher beside him, he raised his hand and smiled. "We're going to talk about the practice game against Nekoma and then practice." You nodded. That same jittery feeling you had a few days ago when Mrs. Masami called you had returned.
Nekoma. Nekoma was only a quarter mile from where mom and Fifi were. You'd be able to see them maybe! Fifi was going to go back to school for her last year, though everyone's declining health made that seem less important. Money was also an issue. Money is always an issue.
What Coach has said went through your ear and out the other, until he said "Let's start practice." That made the jittery feeling much more intense, your anxiety growing along side your new found energy.
"What position did you play in middle school?" Everyone else grabs a ball, some working on spikes and blocking, others practicing serving.
"Um," You hardly played in middle school. When you did, you were a middle blocker because of your height. "Middle blocker." As soon as the words left your mouth several sets of eyes turned to you.
"How tall are you?" Now everyone was certainly looking at you.
"Last time I checked," You had to think again. Last time you had a physical it was 181.6 cm, a little over 5'11. "about 181.6 cm."
The talking started.
"That's about as tall as Kageyama,"
"No. It's taller!"
"Shut the hell up!
"I can see why you were a middle blocker." Coach said. "Is that all you've ever played?"
You only nod.
"Let's see what you have," He points you to practice with a the boy who walked you to the gym and the small boy who was teasing him after you said what your height is. "Kageyama and Hinata have this crazy quick attack. Try and block it." Mr. Takeda looks at Coach, which makes your stomach twist into a knot.
Walking to the opposite side of the net as the two, you feel their eyes on you. "Hey! I'm Hinata!" The short one with orange hair says. "This is Kageyama." He points to tall boy next to him with the ball and glare. "He looks really mean," Hinata pauses. "and he is." Kageyama hits his head before walking away from the net.
A kinda short boy with grey hair throws a ball to Kageyama, where he sets it to the other side of the court, where Hinata isn't. Confused, you run over there, doubting he can get there to spike it.
Only he does.
Your timing is off. The ball bounces as it hits the floor. Kageyama and Hinata high five and you look at the two. Your mom lied. So did Fifi.
They aren't the Clipped Crows anymore.
