After a few more minutes of sleep, James woke up and spoke to me softly to get me to open my eyes.
"Ava, wake up. We have to get up. Williams will want to see you soon."
I slowly opened my eyes and let out a sigh. He was beginning to move his arm off of me when I turned in my spot of the bed to face him. I shut my eyes again and snuggled into his chest. My arms grasped his shirt hoping he'd hold me longer. He seemed to not know what to do at first but then put his arms around me again. His hand landed on the middle of my back with such gentleness. I sighed again and sat up. I told him it was time to put on a show for Williams again. He gave a smirk to my comment and got up to get ready with me.
I walked into the briefing room with James trailing behind me like a bodyguard to comply to Williams' orders to protect me. It wasn't difficult to put on a scared face. I really was afraid, but not of Williams, of myself. I was a killer. Evil or not, no one deserves to die at my hand. I am no one to play with life and death. I walked in with hesitance and waited for him to say something. Williams greeted James and I a good morning then told me to sit down. He said I had to face the team with what I had done. That my power had great potential if I used it and should if the team tried anything. He said James would be my backup if needed.
The team soon trickled into the room. Williams began his introduction of the meeting when Henry asked why we weren't waiting for Kai. Emma and Derek looked at Williams with curiosity. Williams looked at me and directed me to explain.
"He's dead. So is Morozov." I said bluntly.
"What? How? What happened?" Derek asked.
"I did it. They got too close, so I snapped. And if any of you try anything I'll do the same." I blurted, not facing anyone.
I got up from my seat and walked out of the room leaving the three shocked agents speechless. James and Williams followed soon after.
"You'll fit right in." Williams said making me stop in my tracks.
"Fit in where?" I asked him.
"HYDRA. There's someone who is eager to meet you. The Soldier's main handler. From what he's heard, you're exactly what he's looking for. If all goes according to plan you'll meet him next week."
I pretended it sounded like new information and nodded my head in response. Hopefully James and I would be long gone by then. I then told him I'd be heading out for my weekly visits with Erin Reynolds. He reminded me to watch my back and ordered me to stay in James' room again when I got back to avoid sleeping with the blood stains that remained. He left me alone with James again. He followed me to my room to get a change of clothes then we both headed back to his room and stayed with me as I got ready. I heard a light knock on the door of my room. James looked up at me from his couch as I walked out to see who it was.
Derek was standing in the hallway facing my door. I startled him when I came out of James' room.
"Why are you in his room?" Derek asked.
"Williams has him babysitting me. Plus I can't stay in there."
"What did you do, Vixen?"
"He got too close. They both wanted to hurt me. I simply defended myself."
"I knew Kai was a dick, but did he really try to kill you?"
"Yes. Why? Don't believe me?"
He looked at me with disbelief in his eyes that quickly changed into concern as he saw me fake fear. He tried to play hero again.
Derek broke our momentary silence, "You can stay with me if it'll make you feel better. I'll take the couch or the floor or whatever you want. You're still apart of this team. The others will come around too."
James appeared at his doorway at the sound of his offer. Derek clenched his jaw and narrowed his eyes that moved back and forward at us. He waited for my reply that never came. He walked away with a scoff. I let him walk off with anger before looking at the time on my phone. I turned to James and told him I'd be back soon, and headed to Erin's house for coffee.
