Augury Evans' life had always been ruled by the unseen. Things no one else could see or hear...Aberrations, delusions, hallucinations. They were almost always present, she had just figured out how to ignore them. Sometimes they were harder to ignore, they would get louder or nastier.  Most of the time it was whispers in tongues she couldn't understand, shadows in her peripherals, intrusive thoughts that sure as hell were not hers.  They had plagued her for all of her twenty-one years of life. She had just arrived home from the hospital after another...episode when her hell-hole of a job had called her into work.

She had just got off work, serving at the local London pub until well into the night. The moon was out in all its glory and the stars were barely visible due to the heavy light pollution in the area. She held an herbal cigarette between her fingers, the burning smell of mugwort, and coltsfoot emanated from it and thankfully covered the awful smell of the alleyway she walked down. Her apron was thrown over her shoulder and she had let her hair down from her ponytail.

Augury Evans was a dark-haired, fair-skinned woman with a full, yet petite figure. She had a head of long, wavy hair that was as black as the shadows she traveled in. Her work uniform was a slim-fitting entirely black outfit, tight short-sleeved button-up, and tight dress slacks. Her hips were luscious, especially in her work trousers. She had been told that she had the most intriguing eyes...Intimidating to most. Her eyes were black, not dark brown, black. They unnerved strangers but to her unwanted admirers? They loved it, made them think she was into them. Made them think her eyes were dilated, which made them think she was aroused by them.

Those same eyes had fascinated doctors since she as far back as she could remember. She was an anomaly, no one could have truly black irises. But she did. They had also tried to tie them to her hallucinations somehow, something about her genetics but they could never find out. She had been an orphan, had never known her birth parents and had never found who had brought her to the orphanage. So there had been no way to figure out her heritage or her family's genetic history.

She had slipped her phone out of her pocket when she had no idea what was coming for her. Her whole life was about to completely change...and she had no absolute idea. She had barely begun to unlock it when her back had been slammed into the wall so fast her heart had leapt out of her chest and her phone fell from her hand. Her spine hit the harsh brick wall hard and she yelped in pain and shock. A cold, firm hand was wrapped around her throat and-- under ahem...better circumstances she would have enjoyed it.

She found herself staring into hungry, glowing amber eyes. The eyes of a predator. Surprisingly long, golden locks fell from his head. He had slightly feminine features but a very masculine jawline and strong chin. He was stunning but almost like camouflage, to draw unsuspecting people in. Her breathing was shallow as she had just had her breath knocked out of her. The smell of pine and sandalwood hit her and she found herself uncontrollably attracted to him. Her cheeks flushed with colour, warming as her blood rose to the surface. Her thighs pressed together, warmth flooding to the other--more intimate parts of her as well. Her eyes fell to his lips as they opened and they widened in fear. He had two large fangs protruding from his top row of teeth. The moonlight caught them just right and they shined...a threat that she felt deep in her bones.

She felt tears pool in her eyes, unshed as she met his piercing gaze once again, and her bottom lip quivered. Her heart began to pound and she was certain he could hear it. He leaned in closer to her and she felt his lips just a breadth away from her ear.

"You smell heavenly..." She heard him breathe in deeply as if he were taking in her scent and she swallowed nervously. He seemingly exhaled purposely against her ear, his cool breath washed over her and she shivered involuntarily. Goosebumps crawled across her skin in reply and she felt him smirk. His hand moved from her throat to her waist now and he squeezed, appreciatively. His hand felt strong, the cold temperature of his body seeping through her shirt and into her body. She felt an involuntary, soft moan escape her throat and she blushed even harder.

Augury tried to keep her voice level, smooth despite her fear. Yet, the quiver was still present as she spoke, "Is...is this real?...V--Vampires aren't real..." A few traitorous tears slipped down her cheeks.

"Are you denying my very existence when you can hear my voice," His cold lips brushed her ear, "--feel my body against yours," He squeezed her waist again,"--and see my fangs bared before you?" His voice was just as irresistible yet terrifying as the rest of him. He had a slightly foreign, beautiful accent that was deep and eloquent. Like butter being spread on hot toast.

"This--this isn't real..." She stuttered out, her whole body began to shake as she felt panic begin to take hold.

He quirked an eyebrow before he whispered, "Then how's this for not real?" He leaned back into her neck and pressed his lips against the side of her throat. He opened his mouth and stroked the sharp tips of his fangs against the sensitive skin there, drawing a small amount of blood. He tongued the small nicks, tasting her blood like he was tasting a fine wine. He groaned against her neck, right in her ear.

A sharp gasp escaped her mouth, this was wrong. This was so wrong for her to find any of this at all arousing. But the arousal immediately twisted within her stomach and mixed with the pain and fear. The arousal, the fear, the pain all combined inside her and it overwhelmed and confused her. Even if this was one of her hallucinations...she accepted it. She didn't care anymore.

"Then please...please! Take my life! Just make it all stop..." She begged him, desperation painting her voice. Her warm, soft hands reached up and held each side of his smooth, pale neck. He pulled back to look deep into her eyes, those amber eyes were aglow with confusion, concern, and surprise. They seemed to glow brighter suddenly as he seemed to make some silent decision to himself. He held his hand up to her head, wispy shadows circled the tips of his fingers as he waved them in front of her eyes. More tears fell from her eyes. She hoped with every last fibre of her being that this was the end. She made peace with these being her final moments on this plane of existence. Augury Evans welcomed Death with open arms that night.

But it was Alucard Tepes who answered.
