the boy sat on the concrete, against the bricks, looking out into the sky. he took a long drag out of his cigarette as his mind wanders. the heavy cream sky and dry brown ground reminded him of coffee.

it was halfway through autumn so all the trees have dried into brittle shades of orange and yellow. from the trees sprouted the grass which has turned brown in small patches due to the cool weather. above all of it sat clouds of vanilla combatting the warm colors. it was like coffee, he decided, the world seemed like coffee.

his moment was interrupted by a voice from which he could not identify the gender, too masculine to be female, too feminine to to be male.

"hey, can you spare a cig?"

he looked over to assess the others features. they had long brown hair that curled at the end, unlike his, and pale skin that made them appear ghostly. overall they were pretty attractive in the boys eyes so he decided to open his pack of cigarettes and hand one to the other.

he pulled out his lighter and held it towards the their mouth which held the cigarette loosely. they held their hands, calloused, around the lighter as the end of the cigarette lit up.

"i'm gerard", the other offered though the boy didn't answer

"aren't you going to tell me your name?"

the boy didn't want to talk. he already shared his cigarettes wasn't that enough? well apparently not.

gerard held out his lighter as the boy gasped and reached for his pockets,"i'll give you your lighter", they tossed it between hands,"if i can get a name and number"

the boy took a pen out of his pocket before scribbling "###-###-#### frank" on gerard's hand. though he forgot the "a" so it said "frnk" instead.

"here's your lighter, frank", gerard tossed the lighter back to its owner.

frank sighs and sits back down, continuing to smoke his cigarette. he and gerard sat in silence, though it wasn't awkward or unwelcome, it was comfortable. well as comfortable as he could be with his long brown hair falling in front of his eyes.

eventually gerard got up and left mumbling a quiet goodbye as frank stayed in his seat returning the goodbye only when gerard was gone. he stayed a few minutes before beginning to walk home.
