To outsiders, relationships look easy. But it isn't always sunshine and rainbows.
You and Vinny had been on and off for quite a while before getting serious, and for the most part, you two got along swimmingly. Spending late nights giggling at nonsensical memes, early morning hand-stacking competitions and the like. But every once in a while, you two would butt heads.
There had been a brief misunderstanding between the two of you, which resulted in a bit of a tiff. Nothing you two hadn't dealt with before, but this time you both went a little too far.
Vinny had been very stressed recently, but not telling you what was bothering him. This got you a bit stressed, as well, and as we all know, two wrongs don't make a right. Confrontation escalated to an argument, argument escalated to you both crying and needing some time away from eachother. Nothing uncommon for two adults in a relationship.
"Hey, you alright in here?" You gently knocked on the bedroom door. There was silence for a bit, before you heard the blankets shift. "Vin?" Still quiet.
There was a brief silence between you two before the blankets shifted again, likely Vinny trying to decide whether or not he wanted to get up and open the door. He hadn't gotten that good of a sleep last night, and the current situation wasn't helping that much with his fatigue.
"Baby, come on. You know I didn't mean what I said..." you whined, pressing your forehead against the door. "I'm sorry, Vine." Those words were sometimes the hardest to say. Despite neither of you being in the right this time, you still got annoyed that he didn't apologize first a lot of the time. You always wondered why he took so long to apologize, but you were also kind of glad he took the time to forgive you in his own mind beforehand.
After a long silence, you heard the blankets shift again, and then quiet footsteps towards the door. It opened, and before you could even look up, Vinny had already thrown his arms tightly around you.
"No, I'm sorry.. I was such a jackass. I took the argument a little too far and... ugh, I'm so stupid. I'm sorry." He nuzzled his head into your shoulder and let out a heavy sigh, scolding himself under his breath.
"H-hey, it's alright. I started it. I should have thought before saying that shit to you. I'm sorry. P-please don't beat yourself up over it. I was stupid too..." You tried to reassure him, gently gripping his shirt.
"But I escalated things. Too fucking far." He mumbled. "I'm really sorry." You could hear the regret in his voice, it almost made your heart ache.
"I forgive you... you already know I do.." you mumbled back, letting go of his shirt and wrapping your arms around him. "I just.. we both made an oopsie. That's okay. We just move on and get stronger. There's no way to go back and reverse what happened." You said, feigning calmness, as tears welled up in your eyes.
"Easy for you to say when you weren't the one who fucked up... if I could go back in time right now you know I would in a heartbeat..." he whispered, just loudly enough for you to hear. You sighed and patted him on the back. Vin had always been the kind of guy to beat himself up way too much after an argument, sometimes for days after it ended, even if he wasn't very vocal about it. He just couldn't stand the fact that he could have ever said something to hurt you.
"You can't say I didn't fuck up as well. Come on, it isn't even that serious. Looking back on it, it was kind of a silly thing to get so worked up about." You sighed a bit. "You know I forgive you, you've gotta start forgiving yourself too, Vin. We all say stupid shiy when we're angry.. you can't hold onto that." You explained. He shrugged, pursing his lips.
"I guess you're right, but-" before he could finish talking, you grabbed him by the face and pulled him down into a deep kiss. You wanted nothing but to make him feel better in that moment, and maybe this could help. Startled, Vinny grabbed you and gently pushed you off of him, catching his breath. "...(Y/n)?"
"What..?" You looked up at him, a bit scared. You were afraid that you may have done something wrong. He let out a nervous but relieved chuckle, pulling you back to him and tilting your chin upward. You blushed a little, closing your eyes as he leaned in to close the gap between your lips.
"I still love you, you know." He broke the kiss and said gently, then kissing your forehead and playfully pulling you into the bedroom. You two fell down into the warm and comfy blanket nest that Vinny had made in the depths of his despair.
"I love you too." You giggled, curling up with him and resting your head against his chest. "You know, you make a damn good blanket nest." You commended, to which Vinny scoffed.
"Nonsense." He said, muffled slightly by a blanket. You both laughed a little, easing the still lingering tension within the atmosphere.
"That reminds me, we should totally make a blanket fort. That'd be fun and comfy, right?"
"Yeah." Vinny said, pressing his forehead against yours and pulling a blanket on top of you both. "...you're comfy."
"Thanks." You took a deep breath, starting to feel a lot more comfortable yourself. You squeezed him to you, running your hands through the back of his hair and feeling him relax in your arms. He let out a deep sigh of relief before squeezing you as well, kissing on your forehead and chafing his thumb against your shoulder. "So... we good?" You idly asked.
"Y-yeah. By the way, thank you for the little pep talk... I really should start forgiving myself." He answered, sleepiness now evident in his voice. You smiled a bit.
"No problem. I'm always here when you need it." You closed your eyes, taking in a deep breath.
"I'm here too, (y/n). Even when it seems like I'm not. You can piss me off to hell and back and I'll still be here, okay? For anything." He chuckled a little. "Don't be scared to come with me for reassurance. I'll be working on coming to you for help... but in the meantime I just want you to know I'm here." He slurred a little, just talking to talk at this point.
"Thank you so much, Vin." You whispered, smooching his cheek. You were starting to feel a bit drowsy as well, almost drunk off of the warmth of Vinny's arms around you.
"You're welcome." He said before drifting completely off.
"I love you." You said, before drifting off yourself.
