I woke up with William standing over me and Ferren putting a wet towel on my forehead.
"Adelaide!" He held me in his arms. "Are you alright? Do you remember anything?"
"Remember? Remember what?"
And then it hit me. My fathers death.
I chocked on my words. "William." The tears came fast. "What happened. Don't hold back, okay. I need to know."
He sighed and told me that him and the rest of his guards always traveled far to find the best boars, at least a days ride. He looked up at me and began telling me the details of my fathers death.
"Before we got to the edge of the kingdom, your father was wounded, a knife wound in his stomach was the worst we ever saw. He told us he was trying to escape from rebels that attacked his kingdom. Before we knew it, we were in combat with these rebels, I believe their goal was to kill the king."
"And they succeeded.."
"Unfortunately, they did." But my men aided me in killing these so-called rebels. I avenged your father, Adelaide. He did not die for nothing. His last words to me were that he wants you to be the Queen of Vethuven, that you can be the ruler he never was."
I buried my face into Williams chest as I sobbed because of my fathers death. He wasn't the best father, but when my mother passed, he was all I had of my family. And now, he too, was dead.
