The Time Machine

I couldn't believe that it had only been a week since we got the time machine. We didn't know what to do. Part of us was scared and part of us was excited. I always tried to persuade the others to get a grip and start going on a journey, but all in vain! They didn't believe that it was a real time machine and kept saying that it was a fake. I tried calling Ferdinand uncle but his phone was continuously not in range. I always kept the time machine safely in my bag and refused to remove the bag from my shoulders when we were outside.

We were shopping and Emma was hastily running around here and there. 'Just calm down Emma. It's not the first time you've come shopping' I said rolling my eyes. She gave me a quick irritated glance and resumed her shopping. We had been waiting for Emma for nearly an hour. We had finished our shopping earlier and were comfortably sitting on the couch watching our friend grabbing hold of anything wonderful that came her way.

'Sophia, would you like to visit the bookstore?' asked Sterla pointing to the shop next to us.

'Sure. Anything to get rid of her' I said looking at Emma who was quickly grabbing a lace top and shorts along with her.

Sterla laughed and we moved to the bookstore. I looked around the books in the shelves along with Sterla, and suddenly my eyes locked with a book named JURASSIC WORLD. I took it from the shelf and studied it. It was a large book with writings as well as colorful illustrations. I was not a bookworm or anything, but books related to adventure _well, that was another thing. Sterla came back with three huge books with extremely boring covers.

Sterla looked at the book in my hand and gaped. 'Oh my gosh Sophia! Seriously? You're actually buying a book!?' she asked goggling at me. I laughed and smacked her with the book playfully. She laughed with me and we billed the books. 'I really can't believe it. You bought a book!' she said again as we returned to our friends.

'Yes stupid, and please stop staring at me' I said smiling. We reached our friends and saw Emma rushing through racks of clothes. 'Hasn't she finished yet? Gosh!'

'Come on guys. It's not like we've never done it' I said rolling my eyes.

'Never through a time machine though, which we are not even sure properly works' said Clare defensively.

'Get me off this. I am absolutely sure that it works' I said again, trying my best to convince my friends. Over the past one week, I had read the entire book that I bought from the bookstore (which absolutely came as a surprise). The book was FANTASTIC! I guess books are not that bad as I thought it was. It had many descriptions and explanations about different species of dinosaurs, and various theories related to them. I found the book very interesting, though everyone knew that I absolutely hated facts and theories. I really do...such boring stuff! I was fascinated by the dinosaurs, anyone who would've read the book would be...well, anyone who had that sense of adventure in them. That was the only thing my friends didn't have. They were adventurous, alright? But they never had the courage for such a challenging one. Never. And that's the only thing I hate them for.

From the moment I finished reading the book, I had been trying to convince my friends to accompany me to the Jurassic world, with the time machine, of course. But they had been unwilling to go along with me, whether because they were afraid of the Jurassic world or because they still believed that the time machine was a fake, I didn't know. But neither of it bothered me. I just wanted an adventure, and I couldn't even think of one without my dear besties.

'Please try to understand Sophia. It could be dangerous' said Emma almost pleading.

'What sort of an adventure is it if it doesn't have dangers? Every journey is dangerous Emma, and you know that well than anyone' I said glaring at her.

'Yes Soph, we do. But this is another thing. It's no normal adventure you are planning. This could be extremely risky. A time machine, Sophia? Does such a thing even exist? Try to be logical, Soph' said Sterla sternly.

'Don't talk about logics in front of me. I will throw this lamp at you' I said blankly and Sterla backed away. They knew me very well. I wouldn't back down from anything that I had already decided. Never. 'Guys, please. I can't go without you and you know that. We've always been together since our childhood, right? Let's be together in this too' I said back to my calm voice.

Everyone was relieved by the change in my tone and they relaxed, sort-of. 'You don't understand, do you? I know you will certainly go and I can't leave you alone. I will be there with you mate' said Sterla sighing. I shot her a grateful look and looked at the others.

'I'm always with you, dude' said Emma smiling.

All of us looked at Clare and she inhaled deeply. 'Count me in. But guys, you know me. I can't deal with these scary creatures, like dinosaurs' she said.

'We are with you Clare. Don't you believe us?' asked Emma.

'More than anything in this whole world' she said, now smiling broadly. We smiled too. Clare, Sterla, Emma and I trust each other blindly. You might have guessed it by now. We are the only ones who know Clare's secret. We've always felt that we were special in some way. Since childhood days, we had a great bond between us. We actually don't know how we met, mainly because we had met each other when we were babies. We asked our parents how that was possible as our houses were quite far, and guess what they said? They said that they didn't remember. Weird, right? Anyway, leave it.

So we went to pack. That was our normal routine_ packing everything beforehand for an adventure. Clothes, camera, papers, pens, the JURASSIC WORLD book and anything that would be useful in our adventure. We quickly dressed up and crowded around the time machine.

'Are you sure of this Soph? We could be in grave danger' said Sterla uncertainly.

'Again? Sterla, don't make me repeat this again. There cannot be an adventure without dangers. They just cannot. Understood?' I asked her frustrated.

'Yes' she sighed. She knew very well that there was no use in fighting with me.

I took the time machine in my hand and asked 'Ready?'

They inhaled deeply beside me and said in unison 'Yes.' I turned the disc of the time machine and held my breath as we soared to the World of Reptiles.
