DAKOTA
The cold wind whipped against my cheeks as I ran, still clasping my little fingers in my fathers calloused hand. It was dark outside and I could barely see where we were running, but what I did know was that my little legs would give out any second. But they couldn't. I wouldn't let them. So I pelted my feet against the cobbled road as fast as I could to keep up with my parents, following my fathers strict instructions not to look behind me.The moonlight cast shadows from whatever was chasing us from above. My mother's screams were enough motivation for my father to whisk me up into his arms as I clung to his shoulders, squeezing my eyes shut. Alls I could hear was explosions from defensive spells that were being shot up into the sky from my mother and fathers wands.
I can never quite remember how we managed to escape that night. Part of me never wants to. We'd moved house, and even cities, every six months since then. To avoid what? I still don't know. My father would always press his lips into a thin line and pretend to zip it up whenever I'd ask about what was chasing us that night, and my mother abided by what my father wanted. It was something I'd always admired about their marriage. Until the day he decided he wanted to ship me off to school and she agreed with no questions asked.
