DAKOTA

A few days had passed since I had started Hogwarts and it things were seemingly getting worse and worse. I'd discovered through listening to Laura's conversations with our other dormmates that dementors has caused the abrupt stop on the train the other day. And to make things worse, they were surrounding Hogwarts.

I was writing a letter in the common room to send to my parents informing them of what was going on. I wasn't sure if Dumbledore wanted for us to be telling our parents about the danger we were in, what with the psychopath Sirius Black on the loose, but I didn't care. I'd never admit it, but I was quite terrified. I wasn't sure what I was more scared of, the fact there was a known killer on the loose or how comfortable I felt despite dementors being a little too close.

My thoughts were interrupted as I heard footsteps coming down from the boys dormitories. I turned to see Orion Lucas heading down the steps before slumping on the sofa. I only knew who he was because Laura had pointed every single boy she thought would suit me out before we went the bed the first night at Hogwarts.

"Alright, Jednay?" He smiled at me from the sofa. I smiled back at him before signing my letter and folding the parchment up into my robe pocket. As I stood up, he started, almost as if he was nervous, "Hey, so, um, I was just wondering if you'd let me walk you to your class this morning? It's okay if not-"

"No, no, that would be lovely, thanks," I felt heat rising to my cheeks so I turned, pretending to fiddle with my belt. I'd promised myself no boys, but I had no idea where Care for Magical Creatures was supposed to occur and so I thought he would be a great help.

"Ooo, Jednay's managed to bag herself a date, aye?" I heard an all too familiar voice mock from behind me. "I'd be careful being seen with this one, Lucas, wouldn't want to bring your reputation of seeing hot girls down." Malfoy smirked. Anger bubbled in the pit of my stomach at his attempt to call me ugly.

I was about to retaliate when Orion carefully spoke, "Hmm, can you hear that, Dakota? Sounds like jealousy to me," he smirked before offering me his arm to take.

I gladly took it before turning my head and shooting daggers at Malfoy who looked just as angry as he'd made me feel before.

I rolled out of bed to find myself in a rather good mood for once. I put on my school uniform, ready for my first subject of the day, Care for Magical Creatures. We'd discovered only a few days ago that bloody Hagrid was our new teacher. God, Hogwarts really was going downhill.

I strutted down the stairs to the common room, expecting it to be empty as most people would be at breakfast in the Great Hall, however I was met with two voices. I recognised one to belong to the new girl and the other to Orion Lucas. Bloody git.

"...I was just wondering if you'd let me walk you to class this morning? It's okay if not-"

Say no, I thought to myself. Anyone but him.

"No, no, that would be lovely, thanks."

For fucks sake. As if I didn't like Lucas enough for what he'd done last year, I certainly didn't now. Anger filled my body as my legs carried me into the common room before I could stop what was coming out of my mouth.

As soon as I'd said it, I regretted it. I saw her look genuinely hurt for a split second before she managed to cover it up with anger. I hadn't even payed attention to whatever sarcastic comeback he'd tried to impress her with, I could only watch her as she took his arm and stalked off to whatever subject she had.

Goddammit, Draco. Why do you always have to let your foul mouth ruin everything for you?

DAKOTA

As soon as Orion had left me in the capable hands of Hagrid, I noticed Malfoy strutting down the hill. Yet again, anger took over me as I clenched my fists. Why of all people did he have to be in my class?

Clearly noticing my annoyed state, I heard a very well-spoken voice from next to me. "Don't worry, he gets us all worked up like that."

I turned to face a short, curly haired girl with a grin on her face. I immediately recognised her as Hermione Granger, known for how clever she was.

"Tell me about it," I rolled my eyes, refusing to turn around and look at him.

"Oh, Godric. You're a slytherin," she stated looking at my robe.

"Uh- yeah? Is that a bad thing?" I asked shyly.

"N-No, I just feel bad for you having to put up with Mr Pureblood himself over there," she laughed before stalking off to her other friends.

I couldn't help but think of Morgana's reaction to me being put into Slytherin a few days ago. I hadn't seen her since. Was there something wrong with my house? My parents had only told me good things. Maybe it was just different nowadays. Or maybe Hermione did just feel bad for me. I couldn't really blame her. She was the only other girl I'd met that didn't drool over him, which was quite refreshing.

I awkwardly rubbed my arms as I noticed how lonely I was. Laura wasn't in this class with me as she had Herbology first thing and I hadn't seen Morgana for days since sorting.

I hadn't been paying attention to any of my classmates chatter til I heard Malfoy mock, "Oh yeah, terribly funny. Really Witty. God, this place has gone to the dogs. Wait until my father hears that Dumbledore's got this oaf teaching classes." His goons laughed behind him as they always did, only shutting up when Harry Potter charged up to them, ordering for Malfoy to shut up.

You can imagine how the rest of the scene played out. Malfoy seemed to get a kick out of figuring out people's fears or insecurities and using them against people. It saddened me seeing the fear in Harrys eyes as Malfoy cried about a dementor being behind him.

Harry seemed to forget about this as we watched as he approached the Hippogriff that Hagrid had brought in for today's lesson. I do watched, absolutely more than impressed at how elegantly he seemed to ride Buckbeak, despite probably being terrified. If only I could be that brave.

I chewed loudly on my apple as I watched as the class seemed completely enveloped by Potter and his obnoxious behaviour. Anybody could ride a Hippogriff. It was nothing special.

I shot daggers at anyone I could make eye contact with before I found where Jednay was standing. She looked in awe of Harry and his strange knack for befriending animals.

Something stirred within me, probably annoyance of her face, that kicked my legs into gear as they landed. Storming forward, I hurled abuse at the creature, determined to prove a point that Potter wasn't all that and that I was.

The beast kicked out at me, scratching my arm and sending me flying backwards. Godric.

Too embarrassed to get up and face the class, I dramatised it as much as I could in hopes to avoid talking about it.

"It's killed me! It's killed me!" I cried, rolling around trying to block out the laughter from my classmates.

Before I knew it, I was being picked up by the bearded oaf. Trying to hide my smile thinking I'd gotten away from my cackling classmates, I played unconscious.

The smile I was trying to hide soon dropped as I heard Hagrid say, "Miss Jednay, you can help me carry Mr Malfoy's bag, seeing as though you find it so funny."

Oh for gods sake. Not only was my arm stinging but now I'd have to put up with her too. I think I'd prefer Pansy.
