“Wait, what? I’m still so confused!” Casey replied, walking closer to Skye. Skye didn’t know how many times she had to repeat herself until Casey processed it through her head. Although, I guess she really couldn’t entirely blame her, her herself didn’t even know what the hell was going on.
“Where do you want me start?” Skye huffed meeting Casey’s glare.
“From the fucking beginning because I’d like to know what the hell! You never told me you use to date Harry Sty-“ Skye quickly hushed her by covering her mouth. She didn’t want people in the shop to know and start getting whirled up.
“Shh! Not so loud!” she whispered.
Casey flicked her head back, away from Skye’s hand, “Sorry.. Harry Styles” she whispered.
“I didn’t think it mattered” Skye replied picking up the dish cloth and wiping down a table. Skye really didn’t tell anyone about Harry. She was almost ashamed of it, but she never regretted him. She didn’t think anyone would believe her, especially since it’s been 2 years since they had seen each other and Harry never really talked to Skye. Not one phone call, text or tweet. Nothing.
“Why did you two end things though?” Casey asked, curiosity filling her voice.
“Harry auditioned for the X Factor and got through. He went away to live in the house and that was pretty much it. We talked one time after the X Factor and that was sort of our good-bye call.”
“But wait..” Casey started still confused, “That doesn’t make any sense to me Skye. You two could have worked things out.” She looked at Skye, and she knew that wasn’t the full story. Skye’s emotions filled with sadness and that easily read on her face. “What aren’t you telling me?”
“I found someone else” she breathed. “And so did he.” Skye tried to fight the tears that were now swelling up in her eyes, threatening to come out. She blinked a couple times before she managed to get it under control. She turned to look at Casey, her face broken. Casey looked just as heart broken as she was, which made her only feel worse. “He just, wasn’t around and I eventually met Jake and he was always there for me.. Our last phone conversation was to actually tell each other we’ve met other people.”
Skye’s eye’s swelled up with more tears, this time she didn’t hold back. Tears started streaming down her cheeks as she sat down on one of the chairs. Casey made her way over and sat beside her, putting a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
“Oh honey, I’m so sorry” she said. She really don’t know what to say. Skye was the strongest person she knew, and she had to be for Hattie. This was the first time she had seen her this vulnerable, this upset over anything.
“You know it’s funny” Skye sniffled, “When I saw him for the first time yesterday, it was like something inside of me, like that missing puzzle piece, was finally put back together. My life finally felt whole again. It was as if everything I was feeling before I saw him didn’t matter anymore. I was so happy to see him, and now I’m feeling the aftershock of seeing him, something I never thought I would.”
Casey pulled Skye in for a hug. Casey’s heart was slowly breaking for Skye. She never talked about Harry before, never even mentioned him, but she could easily see that right now, she loved him and he was once everything to her. And I guess now she understood why she never talked about him. It was a love that was ended way too fast, in the completely wrong way.
“I was so young I can’t believe I even felt that way towards him” Skye left out a faint laugh. She tried to be happier and make it seem like this situation wasn’t as big as it really was, but she just couldn’t.
“Age doesn’t matter. What matters is how happy you two made one another, the memories you had, all that stuff is what matters, not how old you were when you two fell in love” Casey slowly rubbed Skye’s back. Skye looked up and met Casey’s eyes. She had really pretty blue eyes that matched well with her darker skin tone. She couldn’t help but feel lucky she had such an incredible friend.
“I don’t understand what this means though, none of this. He comes back into my life, out of complete random and it’s because of Hattie. He wanted to babysit her today Casey. Harry Styles, one fifth of the world’s most popular boy band wanted to babysit my daughter. What does that even mean? If anything..”
“I’m not really sure love, maybe he really just fell in love with her. As shocking as that might be, maybe that’s it?” Casey sighed trying to understand it herself actually. Skye sat there for a minute, still trying to process as much as she could in her head. She started getting worried, which starting working her heart up.
No he doesn’t know, he can’t. He wouldn’t be using her as an excuse. No..
Skye looked up and once again had met Casey’s gaze that was set on her. She giggled before standing up from her chair, Casey quickly following. “We really should get back to work.”
“Yeah ok” Casey replied disappointed girl talk was over. She took her place behind the counter and watched as Skye continued to wipe off tables. Suddenly a devious smile poked at Casey’s lips and she couldn’t help herself from asking, “Was he good?”
Skye stopped, snapping her neck to the side. “What?”
Casey still smiling, raised her eyebrows, “You know, was he good?”
Skye’s mouth dropped the second she understood the question. But that was soon replaced by loud laughter coming from both girls.
Skye winked, “He was amazing!”
