"Balance is key, young dragon. What better way to learn balance than with traditional dancing?" Lao Shi explained lifting Jake's chin up with a ruler as the teen was forced to hold a certain position. Jake tensed trying his best not to fall flat on his face.
"Yo, G, dancing requires movement ya know, this is just some sort of whacked posing." He grunted receiving a smack on the head.
"To burn every movement into your mind you must hold it for at least ten minutes." Lao Shi scolded. Jake wobbled due to the smack causing an imbalance. Lao Shi expected his grandson to fall but Jake managed to recover his balance. "Good young dragon, you are getting it."
"Other than the obvious I get the feeling I'm learning this for more than dragon training." Jake sighed. Lao Shi smiled, who said his grandson wasn't sharp witted?
"Indeed young one, you're mother signed you and your sister up for traditional Chinese fan dancing lessons."
"Awww man, that's for chicks." Jake groaned earning another smack on the head.QUE INTRO
END INTRO"It is not just for Chicks!" Lao Shi snapped. "Fan Dancing is not only a Chinese tradition but also a Dragon one, you and your sister will be preforming it at the annual World Dragon Celebration."
"But I'm not the Chinese dragon! That's Sun Park. I'm the American one." Jake complained recovering again.
"Granted but the World Dragon Celebration is a day to commemorate your heritage of which you come from a long line of Chinese Dragons who have preformed the dance every year. You will be participating, young one." Lao Shi half expected an 'aww man' or a sigh if dislike but Jake simply continued to concentrate on his stance. "You do not protest anymore?" There came the sigh.
"If it's something our family has done for generations who am I to break the chain." He mumbled.
"Very wise and noble young one. I am proud. Now they are the main movements I want you to do them as fluidly as possible."
"So why is it in human form?" Jake asked following the flow of the movements.
"As it is a celebration of heritage would it not be fitting to wear clothes that fit our heritage?" Lao Shi said pleasantly sipping his tea and reading a book.
"I guess..."
"Jakie boy, you have got to come see this, Spud's makin' a move on Stacy again and you will not believe what he's wear-" Trixie stopped dead seeing her other best friend slowly moving around like he was in low gravity.
"Good young dragon, I will play the music now, move to that speed." His grandfather mumbled switching on a CD player. Some Chinese music drifted through the said and Jake sped his movements that the rhythm of the music.
"Isn't the point of a fan dance to dance with actual fans?" Jake asked making a butterfly shape with his hands above his head arching down to his feet.
"The fans come later first you must learn the moves. The World Dragon Celebration is also a competition between masters to see who's student best displays their heritage." Lao Shi murmured.
"I see..." Jake noticed Trixie staring and waved but Trixie was too preoccupied with how well Jake danced. She knew he had rhythm, but that was with his break dancing. This was a whole new level of rhythm.
"You will also be singing a traditional chinese song if you can learn the words in time. I do not want you wishing everyone Stir fried meat again." Lao Shi added causing Jake to wince.
"Is Gregory joining?" Jake asked. Lao Shi paused and shuddered.
"Let's just say you're cousin didn't inherit a dragons natural grace." He said.
"Oh what and I did?" Jake said sarcastically.
"I'll say you did." Trixie admitted. "Jakie those moves is fine boy, you gots the rhythm."
Jake pursed his lips and said nothing else the entire training lesson.---
"Sun I don't get why Jake is doing the dance too." Haley sighed.
"Well, sweetie while fan dancing is considered a female thing in the human world it is actually preformed by Chinese Dragons of both gender. Dragons actually began the dance and humans followed." The Korean dragon Sun Park explained wincing as Haley tripped again.
"You'd think that doing ballet would make it easier to do a fan dance but I guess not." Haley moaned. Just as Haley's father walked in she fell again.
"Whatcha doing Hales?" He asked. "Some sort of dragon martial arts?"
"Daddy!" She practically tackled him. They heard the door open and close a second time.
"I'm home." Came Jake's voice. He walked in and smiled. "Dad, you're home early."
"That's right Jackaroo, your mum said to take you two shopping for traditional Chinese clothes." Jonathan said with high amounts of enthusiasm.
"Ah, then I suggest Sun comes with us." Jake said. "If you don't mind. Our family isn't exactly in touch with our Chinese side. And though you are Korean you'd know more than us."
"I don't mind in the slightest Jake. How is the dance coming along." Sun asked. Jake shrugged.
"I'm getting there."
