***

it was one of those nights where you would be sitting alone in the living room, waiting for your fiancé to arrive. it wasn't a bad thing for you, in all honesty. in fact, you loved being there once Michael arrives. you loved seeing the way Michael's tired eyes sparkle with delight once he sees you, the smile that automatically appears on his lips, and you loved the feeling of that warm and tight hug you would always get from him.

however, tonight was different.

the door slammed open, causing you to flinch. you looked at the direction and saw Michael with a very much unfathomable expression in his face. he looked sad, or angry, or maybe a combination of both— you couldn't really figure it out.

"Mike?", you called out, trying to make your voice as soft as possible, as you didn't want to add up to whatever Michael is feeling right now.

to your dismay, Michael ignored you— which never happened by the way, until tonight. Michael stormed upstairs, leaving you alone with Bill, whom you looked at with a confused look in your eyes. "Bill, can you please tell me what happened?".

Bill sighed. "to be very honest, i have no idea. he was fine a while ago, he was eager to go home. but...", Bill paused, looking uneasy, not so sure about what he was supposed to say.

"But?".

"on our way home, he had to use the restroom, and so we stopped by a stopover. when he went out of the restroom, that's when his whole aura changed".

with that, you immediately knew what could possibly have happened.

standing up from the couch, you looked at Bill and gave him a small smile. "thanks for telling me, Bill. now go ahead and rest".

"thank you, (y/n)", you gave him a curt nod before turning around, making your way to yours and michael's room.

you knocked lightly, but you got no answer. you sighed, making your way in, only to find Michael sitting on the bed with his face buried in his knees, looking absolutely vulnerable. your heart broke at the sight. "oh, my baby".

"don't come any closer", you heard michael mumble through his knees— although he knew damn well you would ignore what he said and still approach him. you let out a sigh before walking towards your lover. you sat close beside him, and draped an arm over his shoulder "Michael, love. tell me what's wrong". though you had a hunch about what could possibly be michael's problem, you didn't want to jump to conclusions immediately.

a five-second silence passed, before Michael decided to speak. "i saw myself in the mirror".

you hummed in response, "yeah? what about it?".

Michael looked at you, his gorgeous, chocolate brown eyes glossed with another wave of tears threatening to flow down. "i look—". but before he could say that word, you pressed your index finger against his lips. "don't even dare say it, Michael".

"but i—", before he could say anything else, you cut him off with a soft, chaste kiss. it took him a while before he could kiss back. you cupped his cheeks and pulled away slowly, your eyes slowly opening, as well as his. you had a staring contest for a while, before you felt yourself subconsciously smiling. "Michael Joseph Jackson, you are the most beautiful, most breathtaking man i've ever seen".

Michael sighs, breaking eye contact with you. "you're just saying that".

you gently made him look up at you again, a soft smile plastered upon your lips. "listen, baby", you say, caressing his cheek with your thumb. "i don't know what made you think that you're not a beautiful man, but trust me when i say that you are. your eyes give out shine that can never be compared to billions of stars. whenever you smile, oh", you chuckled to yourself, feeling giddy at the thought of his smile, before continuing. "just a flash of those pearly whites would bring the sun to shame, and would always give me butterflies in my stomach".

this made Michael smile.

"every inch of you is beautiful, my love. your eyes, your nose, your lips, your skin— everything. and you are not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well". you booped his nose, which made Michael let out a giggle. you looked at him fondly, and so did he.

"thank you so much, (y/n). i don't know what i'd do without you". Michael says, and it was your turn to smile this time. "you don't need to thank me, love. it's simply my duty to make sure that the love of my life is happy". Michael hugs you tight, and you hugged back with the same amount of tightness, burying your face in the crook of his neck.

"i hit the jackpot when i met you, mrs. jackson".
