You sighed, chin resting on your knuckles as you watched the boisterous crowd pass by. It was the same thing over and over again. It's not like you had anywhere to be or anyone to hang around with. You were waiting to join college.Sadly, you still had a week left for that. Your eyes felt heavy, due to the fact that you didn't get much sleep the previous night. Just before you were about to doze off you, you heard the door knob rattle and immediately sat up, knowing well who it was. You swiftly rubbed your tired eyes just seconds before the said person took a step in, removing and hanging his coat on the hanger. The said man was your father. He gave you a cold look as he bent down to remove his footwear. You herd swift footsteps from behind as the person entered the living room

'Ah dear, I didn't expect you to be back soon, what would you like to eat?" Your mother implored in her usual soft tone

"Nothing, just give me the leftovers from Yesterday" he responded, words laced with irritation. His eyes once more met you (E/c), and he finally uttered

" I've got you a part-time job at the hospital I work at. It starts on the same day your college reopens" He declared as your eyes widened

" Dear, isn't it already hard for her? why would you do this without her consent?" Your mother spoke up as you looked at her, shocked by your father's decision. He turned around , eyes glaring at your mother

" i decide what she does. You have no right to interfere."he stated firmly as he walked into the sleeping chamber, slamming the door shut behind him

Your mother fell to the floor ,sobbing as you rubbed her back comfortingly. She looked at you with teary eyes

"I'm sorry you have to go through this (F/n), your father wasn't like this when we first met. He was a kind man who always looked after me and took care of me at my worst moments" she cried as you hugged her tight. You knew your mother wouldn't lie. She was the nicest person you had ever met, even if you hadn't met that many people to begin with

" It's alright mother, If this is what father wants then so be it" You responded, controlling our tears. She looked at you with tear-stained cheeks. You gave her a weak smile, getting up to grab a glass of water to calm her down. She watched as you disappeared into the kitchen

Your father used to be a head doctor at one of the famous hospitals in Naples. He used to treat loads of patients daily and everyone looked up to him and so did you. It didn't take long for his reputation to collapse though. You see, the people of Naples were male chauvinists. Once they find out that your father had a girl, that being you, they immediately looked down on him. So in order for your father to cover up the fact that you were a girl, made you dress as a male. Luckily no one's found out about it. You weren't allowed to own dolls, wear frocks and skirts like all the other girls or even grow out your hair. At first it angered you but as years passed, you gave up and hoped that one day you'd be able to stand up to your father.

" Here you go mother" You said, handing her a glass of water as you sat beside her. She smiled at you, eyes still red from crying and uttered a 'Thank you' before drinking the water. After she was done she placed the glass on the table and looked at you

"I wouldn't want to go against your father because I'm afraid and you've also grown up in such a way but I hope some day, you'd meet someone who would give you the courage to do so, to pick your own path and to decide your future" she confessed, standing up to go to the kitchen.

Time skip

That evening you pondered on what your mother had told you. 'Was she being honest?' 'Had she also wanted to go against your father?' 'Would you really meet someone who would change your life?'. You didn't really want to think too much about it and shrugged it off. The house was empty since your parents had decided to go out grocery shopping. Your father accompanied her since he didn't find it safe for her to go alone. You rose up from your usual seat at the window and decided to go for a stroll to the park. It wasn't that far, just about a five minute walk from your house. You fixed your baggy hoodie and loose jeans, slipping on your shoes and grabbing the spare house keys by the door. Your father never let you out of the house but you figured that if you got back home before they did, you wouldn't get in any trouble. You scanned your surroundings as you proceeded towards the park. It felt like years since you had gone out. You inhaled the fresh air as you smiled to yourself until a loud noise caught your attention
