Minho - age 11
Jisung - age 11

The air wasn't exactly filled with awkward tension but still filled with an uncomfortable one. Either way or so, that wouldn't stop all of Jisung's friends and family from throwing him another great birthday party. Some balloons here, some party poppers there, topped off with confetti and a cake.

"Happy birthday Jisung!" Well, it wasn't too far off from the young boy envisioned to be his eleventh birthday. Why may that be the case? Well, there was just perhaps one thing that was missing and it slightly bothered him. Just a little something that would pile onto his happiness by a great amount was what was missing. And that, was Lee Minho.

In truth, he had been waiting all day for this moment to come. Not necessarily for a surprise birthday party but to see Minho there. Unfortunately, he had started losing hope after first not seeing him there with his friends and family nor five hours later. And through all that time of waiting, the only thing he could think of was Minho.

Of course, his friends and family were clearly starting to get worried for Minho as well but not as worried as Jisung was. Nobody could be anyway if they tried. Jisung would say that he'd be the happiest soul alive on the planet if Minho were to show up, even just a few hours later. All he wanted was just for Minho to show up anytime now. But no, he didn't. And he doubted that he'll even show up towards the end.

Jisung wanted to believe. He wanted to believe that someone as close to him like Minho wouldn't forget about his birthday. They've always been attached to each other, practically glued to each other, and they'd never forget each others' birthdays. Something like that may seem small but it really only happens once a year which to Jisung, was a day that he could never miss.

But although his memory of everyone's birthdays may be on point, he wasn't quite sure about how others thought of it and so he started losing hope.

The candles on his cake started to flare out and Jisung hung his head low, shaking his head in slight disappointment. Felix, a recent friend that Jisung had made just earlier in the year put a hand on his shoulder, proceeding to comfort the boy. He wasn't about to cry or anything but he was simply upset.

"Sorry Ji... I've tried to call him a few times but he didn't pick up." Felix said, feeling more guilty for alerting Jisung of the news as the last thing he wanted to do was to further upset/disappoint the already gloomy boy. Jisung simply shook his head at that.

"I-it's fine... maybe he's just busy with something else that's more important than a silly birthday party." Jisung said, shrugging it off rather harshly on himself as he eventually and unexpectedly blew out the candles that had already melted down to the 1/3 of the size that they were from before when they started.

"Sorry..." Jisung looked up at Felix and just shook his head once again, knowing that his friend was just trying to show some sympathy for him but it wasn't needed at this point. "It's alright, it's not your fault. It's not like it's really that important or anything." Jisung said, earning a hesitant nod from Felix who just helped the adults split/cut the cake slices and place them on the paper plates.

He handed a plate that contained a portion of the vanilla mixed with chocolate flavored cake to Jisung. Although the boy's appetite had dropped almost instantly after waiting long hours for the ravenette, he took the cake regardless as well as the fork and ate a piece.

"You should be happy you know... I know that Minho isn't here but even still, it's your special day! Don't let anything ruin it..." Felix continued, trying to lighten the mood but partially failing. However, Jisung had to give Felix the highest score for trying as having Felix by side was at least something.

"Yeah, I guess so. Thanks..." Jisung replied, earning a nod from Felix who dug into the surprisingly sweet cake that seemed to just be packed with nothing but diabetes.

"Happy birthday Ji." Jisung looked up once more at Felix whose smile was clearly contagious as he had unconsciously smiled himself upon seeing his own. "Yeah, you too." Felix looked at him before breaking out into a rather loud fit of laughter as his birthday was just so conveniently placed on the day after his, making at least one of Jisung's response actually make sense.

Although it was rather unfortunate that Minho never arrived to his party, at least he had Felix here with him. And that somewhat brought the same effect of happiness but just not so much as Minho would've if he had came. Nonetheless, their friendship really was something special. And something that should be treated with the upmost care and should be held onto, tightly.
