It was Alex's release day from the psych ward. He had been informed off the situation and he was dying to see Evelyn. He felt like he had gone too far, caused unnecessary panic. It took many counselling sessions to finally be convinced it wasn't his fault.

When they were finally reunited, he held onto her so tightly, she had to remind him that she had to breathe. She didn't care that half of Firehouse 51 was there, she leaned and they kissed passionately.

4 MONTHS LATER

Evelyn had her review appointment today, after getting better she had continued her chemo and today she would find it if it worked or not. Alex insisted on coming with her, and she automatically agreed. Gabby wanted to come and so did Matt, but they both had shift. Natalie had promised to call them and let them know what the verdict was.

Alex and Evelyn waited patiently to be called, Evelyn was nervous, you could tell, but cuddling Alex always made her feel better.

"You know, I remember the day I went into remission." Alex said, breaking the silence.

"Remission? You had cancer too?"

"When I left suddenly, back to Cape Town. I didn't want anyone to know I was sick, and Ava was so busy with Med School, she couldn't take care of me. So we mutually agreed that I would go back to Cape Town, but I ended up having most of my treatment in Holland. I didn't tell you because you're fighting your own battle, you had other things to worry about."

"Oh Alex, you should of told me. I could of been there for you like you have for me. I should of noticed, the sour candies, because you knew I couldn't taste, the cuddly bears for those long chemo appointments. You really are the perfect boyfriend."

Evelyn had said that without thinking. They weren't dating, but it felt so right to say that word.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say boyfr..."

"I am nothing less, and you are my girlfriend. I love you, and I will always be here."

She pulled him in for a kiss and they only pulled apart seconds before the doctor came in.

Evelyn was crying and skating now, whilst Alex was trying his hardest to calm her down.

"Congrats Evelyn, there was no evidence of a tumor found. You are in remission"

"OH MY GOD!"
Evelyn screamed as she sobbed uncontrollably into Alex's arms. The doctor smiled at Alex before she walked off.

"You're in remission. You got there! I'm so happy for you baby!"
Alex shouted.

They told Natalie they were leaving before quickly running out and driving to the Firehouse. Everyone was out on a call, so they took the time to decorate the Firehouse for a party, with
banners all around saying
"I'm in Remission!"

Everyone arrived back from the call, eager to hear from Natalie about the appointment. They were shocked when they walked in, and saw the banners and Evelyn standing there.

"You're kidding me! OMG! Evelyn come here!" Gabby ran over to Evelyn and picked her up and hugged tightly.

Evelyn's life had only just begun.
