"hey, let's watch a christmas movie." i suggested.
"i thought you were jewish?"
"well yeah, but i still like christmas movies."
she sat down on the couch, "okay, but the movie isn't scary this time, so you shouldn't need me to hold you."
she was right, but i still wanted her to. that's not weird, is it?
i laughed a little as i sat down and snuggled against her, "sorry, but you're stuck with me regardless."
she groaned, but it almost looked like it was to hide a smile.
i laid my head her on her chest and could hear her heart racing. was she still nervous from before?
"i'm proud of you, you know that right?" i said to try and calm her down.
"gross, don't get all sappy. and why?" she responded.
"because you opened up to me so much tonight, and i know you're not the opening up type. but of course i loved you when you didn't open up, too."
april's heart still hadn't slowed down, but her tone hadn't faltered a bit, "well that's good because i don't have anything else to open up about. i'm an evil hag with a void where my soul should be."
i laughed a bit and smiled up at her, "okay, april."
she rolled her eyes and began to stroke my hair, "but i guess you're cool or whatever."
"is that so?"
"yeah, i don't hate you like i do other people."
that's basically april for "i love you", and i'll take it.
"i love you too, april."
she smiled. oh my god i love making her smile.
"i love the holidays. i always remember how they were when i was a kid and get so warm and fuzzy inside."
i expected a smart remark from april, but she just agreed, "yeah, me too."
i smiled, "i can't wait to get married and have kids of my own one day. i'll make sure they have the best holidays ever."
april didn't say anything so i continued, only my smile had faded away.
"and i'll make sure to always make sure they're okay, and if they're not i'll help them anyway i can without shaming them."
april looked at me, her usually emotionless eyes filled with concern, "hey, it's okay. fuck your family, they're the ones missing out. you are gonna go so far in life and they're gonna regret being such assholes to you."
i teared up a bit at her kind words, but i smiled at her, "same to you. you are amazing no matter who you love. don't ever let anyone convince you otherwise."
her eyes went empty again, "i already did. i've thought it for months."
i shook my head, "but it's not true, april. it's far from true."
i snuggled up against her again and whispered, "you are the best, april."
